Typically, Mr. Ta Van Buoi's household (born in 1960, residing in Xom Mia hamlet) has successfully implemented this model with a scale of raising up to 3,000 commercial soft-shell turtles.
Mr. Bui applies a rotational farming method, with two batches of farming each year, helping the commercial soft-shell turtle products always achieve stable quality. After about 1 year of farming, commercial soft-shell turtles can be sold on the market at prices ranging from 190,000 VND/kg (grade 4) to 300,000 VND/kg (grade 1), depending on the quality of each product.
With an initial investment cost of about 175 million VND to build 5 ponds, Mr. Bui's model has shown clear effectiveness. After 18 months of implementation, total revenue from selling soft-shell turtles reached about 250 million VND. After deducting expenses such as breeds, food, and medicine, the model still achieved quite high economic efficiency, with a profit of about 150 million VND.
Mr. Bui not only focuses on developing his family's own model, but also actively promotes and mobilizes farmer members to participate in the local soft-shell turtle farming professional association, in order to raise awareness and promote the development of soft-shell turtle farming models in the locality.
Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuy, Chairwoman of the Commune Farmers' Association, said: "The soft-shell turtle farming model in the area not only brings economic efficiency to households, but also opens up opportunities for the development of soft-shell turtle farming on a large scale.
It is expected that in the near future, the model will expand the number of ponds and develop into a large-scale production chain to meet the increasing demand of the market. This sustainable development direction not only helps households increase production, but also ensures product consumption for households, contributing to stable income and local economic development."
