Party Secretary and Head of Village 3 Ka Nền (on the right) actively encourages durian growers to join cooperatives and associations to increase the area of durian cultivation zone codes.

Bao Lam 3 commune has 7,567 households with 32,917 inhabitants, of which ethnic minorities account for 32.12%, and 85% of households are engaged in agricultural production. One of the main crops of the people is durian, with 1,441 hectares. The commune has 207.5 hectares granted export-oriented durian cultivation area codes, with over 5,000 tons consumed through the supply chain and officially exported to the Chinese market, with an estimated value of 1,120 billion VND per year.

Mr. Tran Van Tuyen, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of the commune, said that participating in the durian growing area code helps local farmers export their products through official channels to international markets, especially China, helping to increase product value and brand, ensuring traceability, complying with food standards, and managing orchards effectively through gardening diaries... In fact, the commune has 1,955 households that have achieved excellent production and business performance at various levels, with most people earning high incomes thanks to growing durian and coffee.

However, according to Mr. Hong Viet Trung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bao Lam 3 commune, with the local durian cultivation area exceeding 1,400 hectares, the issuance of new cultivation area codes for only 207.5 hectares is relatively low. The reason for the low issuance of durian cultivation area codes is that durian is intercropped with other crops, and farmers with small durian orchards have not yet joined cooperatives or associations.

According to local residents, people in Bao Lam 3 commune previously mainly grew tea and coffee. Only after durian prices rose did they begin cultivating it. In the future, to increase the area of durian cultivation with registered planting area codes, the local government is actively encouraging households to participate in cooperatives and promoting the benefits of durian cultivation with registered planting area codes.

Village 3 Loc Nam has over 400 households, of which about 270 are K'ho ethnic minority households. In recent years, the lives of the villagers have improved significantly thanks to coffee and durian cultivation. Ms. Ka Nen, Party Secretary and Head of Village 3 Loc Nam, said: “Currently, more than 200 households in the village are growing durian, but the percentage of area granted planting area codes is still low. Most people intercrop durian in their coffee gardens, and some households specialize in durian cultivation but rarely join cooperatives or production groups. Recognizing the benefits of being granted planting area codes, many ethnic minority households are beginning to change their perceptions about participating in cooperative chains and cooperatives.”

According to Mr. Hong Viet Trung, in the coming time, Bao Lam 3 commune will continue to implement the agricultural restructuring project towards a multi-sectoral, sustainable, modern direction with high added value and competitiveness. It will promote mechanization and the application of science and technology in high-tech and smart agriculture. It will also strengthen production and consumption linkages along the value chain; and increase the area granted planting zone codes for durian trees...
