Google Maps location history has vanished without a trace.
According to reports from users on the Reddit forum and noted by 9to5Google , this issue is spreading at an alarming rate. In just one day, numerous users have come forward to confirm that their Google Maps Timeline history has disappeared.
Even with the feature enabled, users still receive the error message "No visits for this day." This means that all data about the places they have visited, potentially spanning years, has completely disappeared. Some users are even unable to access their cloud backups.
Many users and tech experts are questioning whether Google's shift in location history storage from the cloud to personal devices is the cause of the problem. This change, announced by Google last December, was intended to enhance user privacy. However, the reality suggests the opposite.
Google has set a deadline of June 9th this year for users to switch to on-device storage. After this date, all location data stored in the cloud will be permanently deleted. This has put considerable pressure on users to back up their data before the deadline.
Currently, Google has not issued an official statement on this matter.
