Google Maps location history disappears without a trace
According to user reports on Reddit and reported by 9to5Google , the issue is spreading at a rapid pace. In just one day, a series of users have confirmed that their Google Maps Timeline history has disappeared.
Even with the feature turned on, users still receive an error message saying “No visits for this day.” This means that all of their data about where they’ve been, which can span years, is gone. Some people can’t even access their cloud backups.
Many users and tech experts are questioning whether Google’s move to shift location history storage from the cloud to personal devices is the cause of the problem. The change, announced by Google in December last year, was intended to increase user privacy. However, the reality shows the opposite scenario.
Google has set a deadline of June 9 this year for users to switch to on-device storage. After this date, any location data stored in the cloud will be permanently deleted. This has put a lot of pressure on users to back up their data before the deadline.
Currently, Google has not made an official announcement on this issue.
