Google honors Suong Nguyet Anh, Vietnam's first female editor-in-chief, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the publication of the newspaper "Nu gioi chung".

On the morning of February 1, on the Google search page in Vietnam, the familiar logo of this tool was stylized to show the image of Ms. Suong Nguyet Anh wearing an ao dai, her hair tied up high, surrounded by writings and a vase of apricot flowers. The work was done by artist Camelia Pham.

Camelia Pham said she tried to find symbolic images from the poems of Suong Nguyet Anh to illustrate. During her lifetime, the poetess once composed the poem "Mai tree" with the following lines: "Talented without beauty, beauty without talent/ Withered leaves and dry branches, it's still called apricot/ Why bother with bright jade and rouge/ Pure gold, why fear fading color?"

"I combined flat graphic style with nostalgic colors to evoke an old feeling but still retain a modern touch," said Camelia Pham. The artist depicts Suong Nguyet Anh's determination and strong will when trying to break down barriers to establish a separate newspaper for women, through facial expressions.

In the introduction of Google Doodle, Ms. Nguyet Anh was born on March 8, 1864 in An Binh Dong village, Ben Tre province, the daughter of poet Nguyen Dinh Chieu. Her life was full of hardships. Her father passed away when she was 24 years old, she and her brother took over the school to teach the locals. After that, she moved to Rach Mieu, My Tho, got married and gave birth to a daughter. Two years later, her husband passed away.

On January 2, 1918, the newspaper Nu Gioi Chung was first published, and she became the first female editor-in-chief of Vietnam. She wrote many works on the role of women in culture and society, using the pen name Suong Nguyet Anh, meaning "Widow Nguyet Anh". She passed away on January 20, 1921, at the age of 57.

"Suong Nguyet Anh is remembered for her intelligence and noble character, as well as her resilience in overcoming adversity. She was a pioneer for female writers and editors in Vietnam, paving the way for future generations. She had relationships with all walks of life and treated everyone with respect. Several streets are named after Nguyet Anh in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, and Vung Tau," the page wrote.

Google Doodles are temporary replacements for the Google logo on the homepage to celebrate major holidays, events, achievements and people with important contributions in many fields to the community and humanity.

This form of honor first appeared in 1998. When users click on the photo on the homepage, Google will take them to a search page for information about the person. Previously, poetess Xuan Quynh, late musician Trinh Cong Son, famous painter Bui Xuan Phai... were Vietnamese names honored./.
