Following the success of ChatGPT, OpenAI has introduced many other tools for users to choose from. These include GPT-5 – the next promising version in the GPT language model series.
Codenamed Orion, the GPT-5 was expected to launch in mid-2024, but the project is currently delayed by numerous issues, largely related to engineering, costs, and training data. Leaked information indicates that the GPT-5 training process did not meet initial expectations, with two main training cycles yielding unsatisfactory results.

The reason given is that the quality and diversity of the training data did not meet the requirements for this new version. The prolonged testing hampered development and also increased costs. It is estimated that a single GPT-5 training run costs around half a billion dollars in computing resources.
OpenAI is facing resource constraints and financial pressure in developing its new language model. Collecting data from the internet is insufficient, so the company has created custom data files from scratch, improving the quality and diversity of the data.
OpenAI has hired experts from various fields not only to write code but also to solve complex problems and explain intricate ideas. This results in a wealth of data but is quite costly and time-consuming. This is why GPT-5 has been delayed.
