On the afternoon of April 16th, the Provincial People's Committee held a press conference to inform about the socio-economic situation in the first quarter and the key tasks and solutions for socio-economic development in the second quarter of 2024. Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Mr. Lam Hai Giang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, chaired the press conference.

Regarding the socio-economic situation in the first quarter, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Tuan Thanh, stated that the domestic and global contexts in the first months of 2024 continued to be unpredictable, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Following the directives of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial People's Committee, various sectors and localities have focused on implementing many comprehensive and decisive measures to develop the socio-economic sector. Social welfare and the organization of activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2024 (Year of the Dragon) have been ensured.

Overall, the socio-economic situation in the first quarter of 2024 remained stable and developed. Accordingly, the GRDP in the first quarter increased by 6.3% compared to the same period last year; of which: agriculture, forestry and fisheries increased by 3.36%; industry and construction increased by 8.22% (of which industry increased by 8.48%; construction increased by 7.57%); services increased by 6.33%; product taxes less product subsidies increased by 8.04% compared to the same period last year.

The province's GRDP growth rate in the first quarter of 2024 ranked 22nd out of 63 localities nationwide, 7th out of 14 localities in the North Central and Central Coastal regions, and 1st out of 5 localities in the Central key economic zone. Cultural and social activities continued to show positive progress; social security was ensured; and national defense and security were maintained.

Regarding the Amazing Binh Dinh Fest 2024 (Binh Dinh Sports , Culture and Tourism Week 2024), the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Tuan Thanh, stated that despite being the first time organizing an event of international scale, thanks to the efforts of the provincial leadership, the government at all levels, and relevant agencies, the Amazing Binh Dinh Fest 2024 was more successful than expected and achieved the four important goals initially set.

The four objectives include: promoting the image of Binh Dinh province and its people to the world; attracting tourists to Binh Dinh; allowing Binh Dinh residents to enjoy many new and internationally-standard cultural and sports events and activities; and attracting investors to explore cooperation opportunities in Binh Dinh.

Following the success of the Amazing Binh Dinh Fest 2024, Binh Dinh province is capable of hosting and successfully organizing many international events in the future. Currently, the province, along with its departments and the Quy Nhon City People's Committee, is focusing on preparing for a series of summer tourism activities in 2024, starting with the 2024 International Teqball Tournament.

Regarding land management, mineral resources, and environmental protection, the Provincial People's Committee report states that the province has directed departments, agencies, and localities to strengthen the management of mineral resources (land, stone, sand, etc.), inspect and promptly handle cases of illegal or non-compliant exploitation of land, stone, sand, etc., which cause resource waste, revenue loss, and environmental pollution. The province also organized the appraisal of the 2024 land use plans of districts, towns, and cities.

At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee continues to decisively and comprehensively direct the implementation of solutions to environmental issues in the province, especially in the collection, transportation, and treatment of waste, wastewater, and sewage from both production and daily life; improve the quality of land and mineral resource management; and accelerate the implementation of digital transformation.

Regarding key tasks and solutions for the coming period, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Tuan Thanh, emphasized that all levels, sectors, and localities in the province will focus on implementing the 2024 plan, especially the main targets, solutions, and tasks for the socio-economic development plan and the state budget in 2024; closely monitor the practical situation and promptly handle emerging issues; and continue to innovate management and operational methods through specific and practical actions on a monthly and quarterly basis.

Specifically, the province is focusing on developing a plan to implement the Binh Dinh Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. It will continue to maintain strict management; strengthen inspections of public service ethics; and agencies, units, and localities will enhance their proactive approach to handling work in the spirit of "setting an example, maintaining discipline, focusing on key areas, and achieving breakthroughs." They will continue to coordinate the implementation of tasks, preventing any instances of shirking responsibility, passing the buck, or failing to properly and fully perform their assigned duties and powers.

At the press conference, the provincial People's Committee leaders answered many questions from reporters related to: supporting long-time artisans in Phu Gia who make horse-riding hats in preparing applications for the title of Artisan; the responsibility for checking and handling press reports about the commune selling tickets to visit the Eo Gió tourist area using personal accounts; solutions to end deforestation in the province; solutions to increase the export value of tuna and other key products of the province; the progress of providing clean water to people in Van Canh town, Van Canh district; the inspection, review, and repair of local road systems by contractors working on key projects of the province…

Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh thanked the press and media agencies for their contributions in promptly reporting on important events in the province. He also expressed his hope that press and media agencies and reporters would continue to responsibly cooperate with Binh Dinh province, contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the locality in the future.
