Mr. Nguyen Quang Bach, Team Leader of Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs, shared: As of May 18th, Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs has "reached the finish line" in achieving the legally mandated target for import and export tax collection in 2026 (collecting 3,400 billion VND, reaching 100% of the legally mandated target).
Besides Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs, as of May 18th, 4 out of 5 border gate customs offices under the Customs Sub-department of Region VI have "completed" their import and export tax collection tasks.
To achieve these positive results, from the beginning of 2026, customs at border gates reviewed and assessed revenue sources and the import-export activities of businesses through the border gates, especially those importing and exporting goods with high tax rates such as machinery for production, automobile components, rice cooker components, construction materials, partition panels, bicycles, household appliances, consumer goods, various types of fabrics, clothing, decorative items, etc., in order to develop detailed plans for budget revenue collection each month and quarter.

Starting in February 2026, customs offices at border gates under the Customs Sub-department of Region VI organized dialogue conferences with import-export businesses to understand issues arising during customs clearance, thereby promptly handling and assisting these businesses. They also organized working groups to meet with businesses importing and exporting high-tax goods in Hanoi , Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Da Nang, etc., to encourage and persuade them to complete customs procedures and declare import-export goods through customs units at the border gates. As a result, by May 18th, import-export tax revenue had reached over 8,930 billion VND, an increase of over 140% compared to the same period in 2025, achieving over 93% of the assigned legal target (9,600 billion VND).
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, Head of the Customs Sub-Department Region VI, stated: "From the beginning of the year, the sub-department clearly defined the task of increasing budget revenue, which must be linked to collecting correctly, fully, and sustainably, absolutely without causing inconvenience or harassment to businesses, and placing businesses at the center of service. Accordingly, the leaders of the sub-department and customs at border gates have proactively worked with import-export businesses with large tax payments, and import-export businesses that transfer customs procedures to areas with large tax payments (from 10 billion VND/year or more),... to encourage and invite businesses to open tax declarations in Lang Son province."
This is what helped the value of goods declared at the customs branch increase sharply (as of May 18th, the value of goods declared at the customs branch reached nearly 3.4 billion USD, an increase of 84% compared to the same period in 2015).
According to the head of the Customs Sub-department Region VI, with the current collection rate, by May 24th or 25th, the total import and export tax revenue of the Customs Sub-department Region VI will reach 9,600 billion VND, completing 100% of the mandated target assigned at the beginning of 2026.
With the completion of the import and export tax revenue target in just the first 5 months of the year – this is a record collection rate in recent years. Not stopping there, the goal of the Customs Sub-Department of Region VI is to complete the target set by the Vietnam Customs Department for 2026 (15,000 billion VND) by the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2026, and aim to reach 18,000 billion VND by the end of 2026.
The Head of the Customs Sub-Department Region VI shared: To achieve and surpass the target of 15,000 billion VND (as assigned by the Customs Department), in the coming months, the sub-department will continue to implement comprehensive and flexible solutions to improve the efficiency of goods clearance at border gates. This includes focusing on encouraging businesses to declare goods at the provincial customs office; assigning staff to work on weekends and holidays to promptly process procedures for businesses; reviewing and streamlining some procedures to shorten goods clearance time; and resolutely implementing solutions to combat revenue loss through import and export management…
With the solutions that have been and are being implemented, it is believed that the Customs Sub-Department of Region VI will achieve and soon complete the next two targets set at the beginning of 2026.
