According to videos shared on social media, the two fighter jets collided violently, lost control, and tumbled through the air before crashing to the ground. The plane crash created a large explosion and a huge column of black smoke. The four crew members landed safely in the nearby area.
Commander Amelia Umayam, spokesperson for the U.S. Pacific Fleet Air Force, confirmed that the aircraft involved in the crash were assigned to Whidbey Island Air Force Base in Washington state.
The EA-18G Growler is an advanced electronic warfare aircraft developed from the F/A-18F Super Hornet carrier-based fighter variant, with an estimated cost of around $70 million per aircraft. Equipped with numerous modern sensors and jamming systems, it specializes in providing remote support to combat forces, suppressing enemy air defenses, and ensuring the effectiveness of long-range weapons.
