On May 9, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that Google has agreed to pay $1.375 billion in a settlement with the state over allegations of violating user data privacy.
The deal resolves two lawsuits involving three Google products that allegedly violated Texas consumer protection laws.
In a statement, Mr. Paxton asserted: "In Texas, big tech companies are not above the law.
For years, Google has secretly tracked people's movements, private searches, and even their voices and facial features through their products and services. I fought back and won."
However, Mr. Paxton has not announced details of the agreement or how the settlement money will be used.
Meanwhile, Google said the settlement resolves data privacy complaints related to its products such as Incognito Mode, Location History and biometrics.
Google did not admit any wrongdoing and confirmed that the settlement did not require the company to make changes to the products mentioned above.
Last year, Meta - the corporation that owns Facebook and Instagram - also agreed to pay $1.4 billion to settle with the state of Texas over allegations of illegally collecting and using facial recognition data./.
