Against Dortmund, Yamal not only scored a goal but also acted as the orchestrator of Barcelona's play. The creativity of this young talent laid the groundwork for Barcelona's 4-0 victory at home, thus putting one foot in the semi-finals of this year's Champions League.

Before the match ended, Yamal created a notable moment. He repeatedly gestured for a substitution in the final 10 minutes. According to AS , Yamal wanted to give his teammate Ansu Fati a chance to play. Coach Hansi Flick decided to take Yamal off the field and bring Fati on for the last 4 minutes of the match.

Speaking after the match, coach Flick said: "Yamal has played a lot and it's time for him to rest. Ansu should also play. He trains very well and deserves to play in this match."

Yamal and Fati have a close relationship. Earlier in the season, Yamal was offered the number 10 shirt from Fati, but the striker refused.

Fati is at risk of being sold this summer. He is losing patience with being sidelined under Flick's management. Back in January 2025, Porto, Dortmund, and Ajax all expressed interest in loaning Fati. It is very likely that these clubs will return in the next summer transfer window.

Fati has a contract with Barcelona until 2027. The player could pocket around 14 million euros per season in his final year at Camp Nou, a figure that doesn't fully reflect his contributions to the club.

Yamal caused a sensation again on the day Barcelona defeated Atletico Madrid. In the early hours of April 3rd, Yamal helped Barca beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final, after a 4-4 draw in the first leg.
