More than 120 athletes from 13 delegations representing provinces and cities across the country gathered to attend the 2024 National Machine Rowing Championship at Ho Xuan Huong Club, District 3 Sports and Culture Center - Ho Chi Minh City, opening on December 14.

This is the second consecutive year that the National Machine Rowing Championship is organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Vietnam Rowing Federation and Thanh Da Water Sports Club of Ho Chi Minh City. Instead of competing on real boats on rivers and lakes, athletes compete on machine rowing boats, which are exercise machines with integrated electronic systems, displaying parameters of speed, distance traveled, pulling power, and indicators of the competitor, performing movements similar to rowing on a boat.
Compete in the 4 men's and women's lightweight category
The athletes' race routes and results are displayed live on the simulated screen, thereby helping athletes adjust their pulling speed to achieve the best results. In the simplest terms, the 2024 National Rowing Machine Championship is a competition in the form of rowing training on machines, a method of supplementing the technique and physical strength of rowers in rowing racing.
Men's double sculls
The 2024 National Rowing Championship aims to promote the development of the Rowing movement nationwide, creating opportunities for athletes to compete, to test and evaluate the results and quality of training and coaching of athletes and to prepare a force to actively integrate with the rowing movement in Asia and internationally along with other official sports events and congresses.
At the 2024 Olympics, the World Rowing Federation has proposed adding a new competition, sea rowing, while machine rowing will strive to be included in the competition system at the 2028 Olympics.
Compete like a real rower on the river
Athletes competed in 12 open and lightweight events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, mixed team relay, and mixed team 500m time trial. On the first day of competition in 6 events, the host team Ho Chi Minh City temporarily led the overall rankings with 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals, ahead of the teams from Da Nang (2, 0, 0), Quang Tri (2, 0, 0) and Hai Duong (1, 0, 1).
