Many entertainment products have used AI technology. For example, the first science fiction film in Vietnam called "Touch" or the MV "White Shirt After a White Night" were produced using AI; the film "Ghost Entering the Earth" has a soundtrack composed and performed by AI...
Outstanding advantages
According to experts, the application of AI helps optimize the production process, reduce costs and open up new directions for the Vietnamese film industry. Applying AI in artistic products also brings unique experiences to the audience.
Director Nguyen Quang Dung believes that the application of AI in cinema is a big step forward in technology. This is an effective tool that filmmakers in Vietnam need to research and use.
In music , AI has changed the way art is created and enjoyed. This technology helps automatically compose, restore sounds and create new music products.
The emergence of virtual singers thanks to Vocaloid and deepfake technology (simulating facial images) is creating a new wave in music. Some music products such as the MV "Em oi vi dau" by Dan Truong with images and effects created by AI; MV "Mat bao" by Pham Vinh Khuong was produced entirely by this application.
According to musician Nguyen Van Chung, AI helps create catchy melodies and aids in learning music. Director Trinh Lam Tung, although viewing AI as an assistant, helping to handle many problems and reduce production pressure, emphasizes that emotions and final decisions still belong to humans. Although AI creates competition in art, it cannot replace the emotional element that humans bring.
According to experts, in all creative fields - from music, cinema to poetry, painting... - the appearance of AI products is inevitable when its application can bring different experience opportunities. "AI is also a supporting tool to maintain traditional artistic values" - musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien commented.
In fact, products created from technology to create virtual idols are becoming a trend in the entertainment industry. Huge revenue statistics are proof of the success of this trend.
Just over a year after their debut, the virtual boy band Plave has set countless records that even real idols envy. Plave's song "Pump up the volume" swept all online music charts upon its release. With this result, Plave became the first boy band and virtual idol to win the No. 1 spot on Melon's Top 100 in 2024.
MV “White Shirt After White Night” (left photo), MV “Eye of the Storm” (top photo) and MV “Em oi vi dau” were produced with the support of AI.
In the history of K-pop, only 5 boy bands have held the "throne" of Melon: BTS, Big Bang, NCT Dream, Seventeen and EXO. With the appearance of Plave, this is a formidable opponent on the K-pop digital music map.
Not to be outdone, the virtual girl group Mave has also had a series of hits with tens of millions of views since their debut in 2023. Mave is also highly regarded for their ability to communicate in multiple languages - in addition to Korean, these virtual female idols can communicate with fans in Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Brazilian, etc.
According to a survey released by Chinese streaming company iQIYI, 64% of people aged 14-24 are fans of virtual idols. Many respondents said that virtual idols meet their ideal of a perfect role model.
Virtual idols are created based on careful research on the needs of the majority of audiences in each country. Therefore, it is not surprising that virtual idols are warmly welcomed by the public. Japanese virtual idol - Hatsune Miku surpasses real idols because of her "tearing out of a book" appearance is an example.
Not to mention, virtual singers can perform live at concerts "without getting tired". Therefore, their performances are real musical parties, making fans excited. Virtual idols are also clean about their personal lives and... stay forever young!
In Vietnam, virtual singer Ann has also made some impression, although she is not as complete as her "colleagues" in Korea, Japan, China... Bobo Dang - representative of Ann's management company - said that he directly participated in the image production stage, applying advanced CGI technology to bring high-quality images before releasing this virtual singer.
"We always closely follow the changes in the music market and audience tastes to build the image of singer Ann, to enhance the public experience" - Mr. Bobo Dang said.
Humans are irreplaceable.
AI is increasingly disrupting the entertainment industry and creating new opportunities, but the application of this technology also brings mixed opinions.
Singer-songwriter Phan Manh Quynh believes that technology can make music lack the vibration of both the creator and the listener. AI can help musicians complete their work quickly, but artistic products that do not come from the heart will have difficulty lasting.
According to singer-songwriter Duy Manh, the characteristic of art is emotion, while AI cannot have human emotions. "Therefore, applying AI to products or creative processes is something that needs to be carefully considered. AI can create complete products but cannot replace the emotional depth of the artist. Copyright issues are also complicated when AI can copy styles without clear intellectual property rights," he wondered.
In Korea, virtual K-pop idols have become a trend. Virtual idol groups like Mave, Plave, Isegye Idol… or “rookies” Syndi8, Ixia are no longer experiments. These groups are dominating the charts, selling out concerts when they hold them. In some cases, they are even more successful and famous than their real idols.
Insiders believe that AI can only take over when producers and directors want to make "instant noodle" products, while audiences only want simple, fun, trendy entertainment. They do not need to enjoy the sophistication of art or feel products created with the artist's own emotions, experiences, and passion.
For the public, entertainment companies and artists, the digital age is opening up exciting opportunities but also raising many troubling issues. What will happen to music - which is created based on human emotions - when the performing artist is a virtual image?
AI brings many benefits to music but cannot completely replace human creativity. "The musician's emotions and soul are essential elements for a true musical work. Therefore, musicians need to know how to combine technology with personal creativity" - musician Tien Luan commented.
Disney and Universal - two "giants" of the US entertainment industry - have just sued Midjourney Company, accusing this AI company of copyright infringement when creating images imitating famous characters in the movies "Star Wars", "The Simpsons", "Shrek"... This lawsuit is considered the first legal milestone between major Hollywood studios and AI companies, reflecting the escalating tension between content creators and the technology industry.
In South Korea, in the face of the increasing wave of copyright disputes related to AI in the world , at the end of June 2025, the government of this country announced copyright guidelines for AI-generated content. This is considered an important step to address legal challenges in the context of AI being increasingly applied in the entertainment industry.
