Be civilized tourists

1. Recently, the social network Facebook has been "stirred up" when Facebook account Nguyen Huyen (with more than 60,000 followers) posted a clip titled "Highland teacher trembles when coming to Nha Trang". According to this female tourist, at the end of June, she "backpacked" more than 2,000km from Ha Giang through many provinces and cities, when arriving in Nha Trang she felt "scared, hesitant and did not know whether to continue or not". The story is that at around 11pm on June 24, she parked her car on Tran Phu Street to stroll around April 2 Square and Nha Trang night market, then had her car impounded for parking in a prohibited area, then the traffic police took the car to headquarters to handle. Not only her, nearly 20 tourist buses were caught with this error. This female tourist affirmed that she had been driving for more than 20 years and "never violated traffic laws", this was the first time she had violated "for life". It is worth mentioning that in the clip recounting the incident, this female tourist said that Nha Trang is very beautiful but less friendly than many other localities because "no one guides where to park, where to park for tourists to park" and used words like "fearful", "hesitant", "just want to leave right away"... when referring to Nha Trang.

Immediately after the clip was posted on social media, many people disagreed with the female tourist's opinion. Mach Bui's account quickly responded: "Thank goodness, the teacher in the highlands is scared, but businessmen, overseas Vietnamese, foreign guests, and domestic VIP guests are very happy with our Nha Trang". Someone quickly took a photo of the traffic sign placed on Tran Phu Street (April 2 Square section) about the prohibition of parking in this area; at the same time, left a comment emphasizing that the responsibility of a vehicle driver is to read the sign, learn about local regulations, especially in areas with many tourists like April 2 Square Nha Trang. In particular, many people were upset when this female tourist used "big words" to refer to a very normal incident in daily life, even though it was an unpleasant incident during a tourist trip. And in fact, this female tourist was only warned by Nha Trang traffic police but not punished. Most opinions online believe that in order to attract likes and views, female tourist Nguyen Huyen intentionally used language to aggravate the incident, unintentionally spreading insecurity in the community. This has significantly affected the image and tourism of Khanh Hoa. In reality, not everyone is "sober" enough to realize the nature of the incident. When the clip spread on social networks, besides the reactions, there were also many criticisms about Nha Trang...

Emily Bui's post reflecting on the

Emily Bui's post reflecting on the "rip-off" CL restaurant has received backlash from the online community.

2. It is worth mentioning that incidents like the clip "Highland teacher trembles when coming to Nha Trang" are not rare. Previously, some tourists to Nha Trang posted articles in the direction that Nha Trang often "rips off" tourists. Typically, on May 25, Emily Bui's account posted on social media an article denouncing CL seafood restaurant for "ripping off" tourists with the caption "Whoever eats here, avoid this restaurant, it's a scam, scamming a sea urchin for 4 million, parents". But when looking at the bill, this restaurant sells sea urchins for 1.8 million VND/kg. More importantly, the restaurant owner clearly stated the price before preparing the dish for customers. The price of CL's sea urchins is not expensive compared to many other restaurants. Searching for information online, in other provinces and cities, the price of sea urchins sometimes reaches 2.5 million VND/kg. After the online community spoke up, Emily Bui's account quickly deleted the post, but it is unknown when the CL restaurant's scandal will be erased.

3. The Land of Agarwood is a peaceful land, the people are very hospitable. This is not the "self-indulgence" of Nha Trang people but from the compliments of domestic and international tourists. That is why most Nha Trang people are conscious of building and protecting the image of the land where they live. The reputation of a land is invisible but very valuable, especially for a famous tourist city. People living in Nha Trang strongly condemn the behavior of "ripping off" tourists or other unfriendly behaviors; support articles reflecting the shortcomings and limitations of Nha Trang tourism industry. On the contrary, we are also very sad to come across articles and clips reflecting irresponsibility that damage the reputation and prestige of Nha Trang tourism such as the accounts of Nguyen Huyen and Emily Bui mentioned above. Such articles and clips to relieve personal anger are not necessarily correct, but greatly affect the Nha Trang tourism brand.

Therefore, Nha Trang people always hope that tourists who love this land will always consider carefully before writing anything to criticize or disparage Nha Trang or any other tourist destination they visit. In the current era of social media explosion, inaccurate information and “big” words can “kill” a restaurant, a tourist destination… and possibly the reputation of a land!

A civilized and friendly tourist city cannot be built only by the efforts of the government, businesses and local people, but also by the support and cooperation of tourists. We hope that everyone when traveling will be a responsible tourist - responsible for themselves and responsible for the destination! Before traveling in Nha Trang or any other locality, carefully research information about the destination. Look carefully at the signs and obey traffic laws; consider prices before eating to avoid unnecessary trouble; do not litter when traveling…!
