On his personal Facebook page, coach Gong Oh-kyun posted an article denouncing many hidden corners when he was leading the Hanoi Police Club. The Korean coach led this team from round 4 to the end of round 7, before being suspended and ceding his duties to Technical Director Tran Tien Dai in round 8 of V.League 2023/24.
In the article, coach Gong Oh-kyun said he had to rotate the squad, letting the players play in different positions to cope with the injury problem.
"Changing positions is the solution to the problem of player absences and there is no such thing as a default starting position for everyone. Changes can happen at any time depending on the coach, philosophy and player's ability. On this occasion, I would like to thank the players who followed my instructions“, Mr. Gong wrote.
Coach Gong Oh-kyun affirmed that during his working time, he focuses entirely on the players and the team without worrying about other things. He does not distinguish between domestic or foreign players but evaluates them from the same perspective of play.
In addition, coach Gong Oh-kyun said he was influenced in both personnel selection and tactical direction by another member of the team.
"Despite the authority and responsibility of the head coach, a director – who had planned to leave the team the day before the match – returned, singled out specific players and pressured them to perform, such as coercion“, Mr. Gong wrote.
This coach gave an example of the moment when goalkeeper Nguyen Filip stepped up to participate in the attack at the end of the match. Mr. Gong did not want his students to do that because of the goal difference. However, the above-mentioned interventionist once again "encroached the authority" of the head coach, giving opposite instructions.
Coach Gong Oh-kyun also said that the leadership of Hanoi Police Club did not keep their promise to keep the opportunity for him until the end of the first leg. In addition, the former U23 Vietnam coach affirmed that there was no way he refused to liquidate the contract because he wanted to earn a lot of compensation as rumored.
Regarding the contract story, Mr. Gong revealed: “Despite the unfair situation, I cooperated with the club as much as possible to preserve the terms. But someone leaked the details of my contract to the outside and spread the news to the media that I did not agree, I wanted to terminate the contract for money.".
Mr. Gong Oh-kyun thanked Vietnamese fans for their support during his recent work period. He hopes to have the opportunity to return if everything goes well.
After parting ways with coach Gong Oh-kyun, Hanoi Police Club announced new head coach Kiatisak Senamang on January 15.
