Mbappe continues to demonstrate his status as a major star. |
Speaking at the Sports Press Festival in Laval (France), Deschamps asserted that the portrayal of Mbappe as a selfish player who prioritizes individual achievement is inaccurate.
He said: “Mbappe is labeled selfish and doesn’t run enough? That’s your analysis. I don’t think so, although some players may run less than others. If you want Mbappe to run at least 11 km per match, then don’t bother, he won’t do it.”
Deschamps stated: "However, he has many other important qualities that can decide a match. You may like Kylian, or you may not, but the young people admire him. He is a striker, and it would be ridiculous if he didn't have a certain degree of selfishness."
Deschamps also affirmed that Mbappé has matured in his leadership role, becoming captain and having a positive influence on the entire team. These words of defense come amidst frequent criticism of Mbappé's playing style, particularly regarding his pressing ability and defensive contributions.
