HMD launches budget smartphone with design similar to iPhone 17 Pro.

Finnish smartphone manufacturer HMD has just introduced a new budget phone called the HMD Vibe 2 5G in the Indian market.

The HMD Vibe 2 5G impresses with its rear design, which shares many similarities with the iPhone 17 Pro, especially the large camera module that stretches across the top, although the device only has two cameras instead of three.

An interesting aspect of HMD's marketing strategy is that they describe the Vibe 2 5G as having a "futuristic design," although the back of the device is clearly heavily influenced by Apple's recent iPhone Pro models. This similarity makes it difficult for many to avoid comparing the two products.

Although the Vibe 2 5G looks like a cheaper version of the iPhone 17 Pro due to the lack of a camera, its pricing strategy could clearly garner significant attention. HMD's Vibe 2 5G isn't aimed at directly competing with the iPhone; instead, it's priced at just $114 to be a budget-friendly 5G phone option.

HMD wants to focus on what users need most.

The HMD Vibe 2 5G boasts a 6.7-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, runs Android 16, and integrates a 6,000 mAh battery – all of which are more practical features for consumers.

Additionally, the product features a 50MP rear camera, an 8MP selfie camera, 18W fast charging, IP64 dust and splash resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The HMD Vibe 2 5G will be available on Flipkart in three colors: Cosmic Lavender, Nordic Blue, and Peach Pink.

With the affordable 5G phone market becoming increasingly competitive and utilizing the advancements in this network technology, HMD clearly needed a standout product to differentiate itself. It seems the company chose the easy path by creating a product with a design similar to the latest generation iPhone.
