TPO - Increased electricity usage will lead to higher electricity bills for Ho Chi Minh City residents in March than in previous months. It is forecast that electricity consumption will continue to increase and set a new record in April and May.

As of March 26, average consumption in Ho Chi Minh City reached 3 million kWh/day, 78,13% higher (equivalent to 12 million kWh/day) compared to the same period in 8,38 due to environmental temperature. increase.
Mr. Kien further informed that households' electricity bills in March will increase sharply because EVNHCMC's statistics show that the proportion of customers using the 3th level electricity price ladder increased by more than 6%. Meanwhile, in previous months, only about 30% of the total of more than 20 million customers in the city.
"Increased electricity usage will lead to higher electricity bills in March than previous months," Mr. Kien said.
According to the representative of EVNHCMC, in the first 2 months of 2024, electricity consumption of domestic customers (accounting for 49,55% of total output) increased by 11,9%, much stronger than that of non-resident customers. daily activities (increased by 7,32%; accounting for 50,45% of total load). Among non-domestic customers, electricity consumption of the industrial and construction group (accounting for 29,49% of total output) also increased by 6,2%.
This shows that the city's economy is recovering and growing. At the same time, residential customers have increasingly used electrical equipment, especially cooling equipment. Therefore, during the hot season, electricity consumption of domestic customers continuously increases
In El-Nino conditions, the heat will last longer and the temperature will continue to rise as predicted, the city's electricity consumption will also continue to increase in April and May.
"It is forecast that there will be some days when electricity consumption exceeds 95 million kWh/day, setting a new record for electricity consumption in Ho Chi Minh City" - Mr. Kien said.
Ho Chi Minh City's power system already has a capacity backup of 40-60% depending on the voltage level. Therefore, this agency will have enough capacity to meet Ho Chi Minh City's load demand under all growth scenarios. However, local and small-scale overloads cannot be ruled out due to a sudden increase in demand at the same time.
