Miss Do Lan Anh causes a stir with her "Neo-classical" photo series

TAN CO - A new photo series from the Viet Nu - Vietnam project following the development journey of Cai Luong art originating from the Mekong Delta, the photo series follows 3 Acts.

The photo series "Tan Co" of Miss Do Lan Anh (Miss Earth Vietnam 2023), produced by the Dart Studio team, is creating a wave of special attention on social networks. Not only because of the luxurious and attractive image of the beauty queen, but also because of the cultural and artistic message that the young crew sent: retelling the story of passion for Cai Luong and Tuong Co theater with a new look.

Miss Do Lan Anh and the mark of a young team from Tay Ninh

The highlight of the photo series comes from the creativity of Chau Thanh Dat – creative team leader, set designer, and Nguyen Huynh Minh Thuan – the person who captured the moment and recreated the image. Both are from Tay Ninh, studied together since high school, and have nurtured the project for many years.

A community project of young people who love the art of reformed opera

This year, they decided to boldly embark on the path of research and creation associated with Vietnamese culture. Chau Thanh Dat is a former IUH student who has participated in many school activities. Nguyen Huynh Minh Thuan is a formerFPT Polytechnic HCM student majoring in Multimedia Graphics and has a passion for creative photography. They do not hide their desire to promote this photo collection through TikTok, Facebook, photography groups, and when they have enough strength, they will organize a thematic exhibition on Cai Luong and Tuong Co.

"We hope that one day we can work with historians to dig deeper and present in a more standard way. Currently, the group is doing research on their own and cannot achieve 100% accuracy, but the innovation and new highlights have helped the photo series touch the hearts of young people" - Nguyen Huynh Minh Thuan shared.

Kep Thi – from the international stage back to the Neoclassical space

The photo series was made with the collaboration of designer Ho Thanh Nha (Kep Thi), who made her mark when designing costumes for the Miss Grand Vietnam show and accompanied Miss Vietnam 2018 Tran Tieu Vy. In "Tan Co", the designer continues to affirm her mark when the costumes, crowns, and thresholds are designed with a blend of tradition and innovation, evoking the majesty and bravery of the male and female characters.

In particular, the photo series evokes the image of Nguyen Thi Banh - the first female general in history to disguise herself as a man, and also evokes the image of a singer from hát bội to cải lương: upright, brave and heroic.

"When returning to Tan Co, the costumes seem to find their rightful place: where the drums, vọng cổ verses and stage lights still echo. We would like to thank the great artists who have kept the flame of the stage alive so that today the younger generation can retell this story with a new look" - the crew's message.

- Nam Ai Nam Xuan: Songs often used in sad passages in Cai Luong. Through that, the photo series shows the wear and tear, being somewhat forgotten, being far away from the new rhythm of life, the bright stages have had to give way to modern constructions.

Miss Do Lan Anh – contemporary beauty in a traditional setting

Chosen as the central face of the photo series, Miss Do Lan Anh brings a majestic yet gentle aura, a harmony between modern beauty and traditional spirit. Her image in the "Kep Thi" costume is like a bridge, helping young people today easily access traditional art. Do Lan Anh is a model, graduated from university in the US, now returning to the country and taking part in this project, she affirmed: "When I put on the costume, I feel more clearly the weight of the heritage of Cai Luong and Hat Boi. It is no longer a simple fashion photo shoot, but a way to immerse myself in a cultural vein".

A collective resonance project, including Miss Do Lan Anh

The success of the photo series also comes from the participation of many collaborators: Phuong Anh Nguyen (makeup, hair), Bich Phuong (actress manager), Minh Minh (nail accessories), Nguyen Duc Luong (shoes, pheasant feathers), Phuc Trang Cong Minh (flag), with the support of Le Ngoc Thuy Tien, Thanh Tien, designer Ly Vuong Dien (Hau head model), and locations - props from Dart Studio.

- Vong Co: A typical piece with 32 beats, used for climaxes. In the photo series, it is about empathy, looking back, preserving values that are unintentionally considered old, but are always renewed. Even if there is only 1 person left to watch, the stage is still lit up.

This is considered a cultural bridge for the young generation because not only stopping at images, "Tan Co" also opens a direction: using the language of photography and fashion to bring the art of Cai Luong closer to young audiences. The crew shared: "The surprising reaction, evoking beautiful memories from young people shows that Cai Luong is still alive. From just listening on the radio, watching on the internet, we hope that young people will actually go to the theater to watch Cai Luong".

- Melodies, Ho, Xu, Xang, Xe, Cong: These are the folk songs, melodies, and musical notes that create Cai Luong. The images thereby affirm the value, cultural features, and a golden period that unites people through songs.

In the contemporary wave, when many traditional values are facing the risk of fading, the project of the Dart Studio team with Miss Do Lan Anh is a proof that: young people can absolutely continue writing the cultural story, as long as they find the right creative language.
