Students put in the effort, parents provide support.

After completing the registration process for 10th grade entrance exams on April 17th, students and parents were able to predict the competition ratio for each school based on data from the admissions portal and the allocated quotas. In the context of an increasingly competitive 10th grade entrance exam and low admission rates to public schools, many students have proactively adjusted their study plans to be more focused and targeted. Many have clearly defined their goals and reallocated their study time to maximize the "final push" before this important exam.

Nguyen Minh Anh (Dich Vong ward, Hanoi) said that after checking the predicted competition ratio for Yen Hoa High School - where she put her first choice - she adjusted her study plan to focus more on question types that are easier to score points on.

“I’ve broken down my goals into weekly steps, reinforcing basic knowledge while practicing advanced exercises to increase my confidence. The competition rate for Yen Hoa High School is expected to be the highest in the city, so I’m a little worried, but to achieve my dream, I will definitely focus all my efforts during this final push,” Minh Anh shared.

Not only students but also many parents are entering the "final sprint" phase, providing support in various ways, from arranging reasonable daily schedules to stabilizing their children's mental state. Instead of creating pressure, many families choose a gentle approach, becoming a pillar of support so their children can confidently enter the important exam.

Ms. Tran Thu Ha (Hoang Mai ward, Hanoi) said that at this point, with only about a month left until the exam, her family doesn't talk much about scores with their child. Instead, they choose to support their child by creating a reasonable schedule and closely monitoring their learning progress.

"I take extra care of my child, paying attention to her studies while also reminding her to eat and rest properly to ensure her health. All the stress stops at the door of our house so that she can have some time to relax, however short it may be," Ms. Ha said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Quang Thuan (Dinh Cong ward, Hanoi) focuses on the psychological well-being of his child before the exam. According to Mr. Thuan, referring to the competition ratio is only for guidance; the important thing is to help his child maintain confidence. His family regularly discusses with their child to prevent pressure from the competition numbers and to help them focus on their actual abilities.

The school actively provides support.

In the final stretch leading up to the 10th grade entrance exam, schools in Hanoi are proactively developing appropriate review plans that closely match students' abilities. Beyond reinforcing knowledge, many schools are also strengthening guidance on exam-taking methods and skills, and discussing exam-taking psychology to help students prepare as best as possible, both academically and psychologically.

Located on the outskirts of Hanoi, Nam Phuong Tien B Junior High School (Xuan Mai commune) has 3 ninth-grade classes with 101 students. Immediately after students completed their application registration, the school implemented measures to support them during the final stages of intensive review. The focus was on assessing and classifying students' abilities into groups to develop appropriate review plans, increasing practice sessions closely aligned with the exam structure, and providing guidance on test-taking methods and time management skills to help students minimize errors.

According to teacher Le Thi Thuy, Deputy Principal of Nam Phuong Tien B Junior High School, the school's review process for students is implemented systematically, without complacency, and tailored to each stage. The school develops review plans suitable for each group of students, focusing on consolidating basic knowledge for students with average academic performance, while also providing advanced training for those aiming to enter top-tier schools.

“We require teachers to closely monitor each student’s abilities to provide appropriate support, helping them confidently enter the exam. In addition, homeroom and subject teachers regularly communicate with parents to understand their children’s psychology and provide timely encouragement and support to help them maintain their spirits before this important exam,” Ms. Thuy said.

Review and support for 9th-grade students are also being implemented by many other schools in Hanoi according to their specific conditions. In addition to flexibly organizing classes to reinforce knowledge, increase practice with exam questions, and guide test-taking skills, schools are also actively coordinating with parents to closely monitor students' review process during this crucial final stage.

According to Ms. Phan Thi Chan Ly, Principal of Ly Thuong Kiet Junior High School (Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward), in the 2025-2026 school year, the school will have 5 ninth-grade classes with 203 students. Review sessions are organized according to regulations with 2 lessons per subject per week and are completely free of charge. At this time, in addition to reviewing knowledge and test-taking skills, the school is particularly concerned about students' health and psychology, so a reasonable timetable has been arranged to avoid overload. The school also requires homeroom teachers to closely monitor and coordinate with parents to ensure students are in the best possible state before the exam.

Thai Thinh Secondary School (Dong Da Ward, Hanoi) is actively reviewing material while simultaneously encouraging and alleviating anxiety for parents and students, with only about a month left until the 10th grade entrance exam. According to Principal Nguyen Cao Cuong, the school is continuing to teach subjects not included in the 10th grade entrance exam as planned, completing the curriculum, and intensifying review sessions for Mathematics, Literature, and English.

The 2026-2027 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi will feature several new aspects, aiming for a safe, serious, transparent, and objective examination. The most significant change is the elimination of regional admission zones, aligning with the two-tiered local government model. Students will now have more flexibility in choosing their desired schools across Hanoi. This contributes to a more equitable access to education .

Another new development is that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has applied information technology and digital transformation to the registration process for the 10th grade entrance exam. With an online registration period of 8 days, students can monitor their registration preferences in real time and adjust them before the deadline. This process has helped to make the admissions and registration process more transparent and open, creating favorable conditions and reducing administrative procedures compared to the previous paper-based system.

The entrance exam for 10th grade in Hanoi for the 2026-2027 school year will take place on May 30th and 31st. For admission to non-specialized public high schools, Hanoi estimates that nearly 130,000 candidates will register to take the exam, which consists of three independent subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has arranged approximately 250 examination centers with over 5,400 examination rooms. It is expected that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the exam results and admission cutoff scores on June 22nd; students must confirm their enrollment from 1:30 PM on June 25th to June 27th.
