The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has officially issued a decision on adjusting the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2025.
Students from Tran Hung Dao Primary School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) participate in fun activities during the spring festival.
The decision issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the afternoon of December 12th stated that, considering the proposal of the Department of Education and Training in document No. 7903/TTr-SGDĐT dated December 6, 2024, regarding the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for the education sector in 2025, the City People's Committee approved the proposal of the Department of Education and Training to adjust the Lunar New Year holiday period for preschool, general education , and continuing education in Ho Chi Minh City from January 23, 2025 (the 24th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rat) to February 2, 2025 (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Snake).
Thus, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 11 days off for the Lunar New Year in 2025, an increase of 2 days compared to the previous plan.
Previously, according to the Lunar New Year holiday schedule stipulated in the 2024-2025 school year plan issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, preschool children and students from primary to high school in Ho Chi Minh City would have their Lunar New Year holiday from January 25, 2025 (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month) to February 2, 2025 (the 5th day of the 1st lunar month). Including weekends before and after the stipulated period, students in Ho Chi Minh City would have a total of 9 days off.
With only 9 days of Tet holiday, many parents have expressed concerns that the short duration is unsuitable for those who are migrant workers. Furthermore, after assessing the actual implementation of the plan by schools in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Education and Training has submitted a proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requesting approval to change the Tet holiday schedule for 2025 to ensure sufficient time for the school year plan.
Therefore, on December 6th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to change the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for 2025, adding two more days of holiday compared to the previously planned schedule.
