Specifically, 9th-grade students participated in an English proficiency assessment using the PET exam (equivalent to level B1 on the CEFR scale).

As a result, in listening skills, over 75% of 9th-grade students achieved Pre-A1 or A1 level. Over 20% of students achieved A2 to B1 level, and nearly 5% achieved B2 level.

In reading skills, over 75% of students achieved Pre-A1 and A1 levels. Less than 25% of students achieved A2 or B1 reading skills, and no students achieved B2 level.

The survey results among 9th-grade students show significant differences between regions, districts, and counties.

Specifically, students in District 1 achieved the highest reading skills scores, with nearly 50% reaching A1 level, over 35% reaching A2 level, and nearly 15% reaching B1 level. Students from this district also led in listening skills.

Meanwhile, 11th-grade students are assessed on their English proficiency using the FCE exam (equivalent to B2 level).

The results show that 11th-grade students have more limited reading skills than listening skills. Accordingly, nearly 80% of 11th-grade students achieved A1 or A2 reading level, less than 5% achieved B2 level, and none achieved C1 level.

Regarding listening skills, the results show that over 70% of 11th-grade students achieved A1 or A2 level; nearly 20% of students met the B2 to C1 standard.

According to the CEFR assessment scale, over 70% of 11th-grade students in Ho Chi Minh City only achieve listening level A1 or A2, equivalent to an IELTS score of 4.0 or lower.

According to education experts, the results of the English proficiency survey show that the basic English listening skills of 11th-grade students in Ho Chi Minh City for daily use are still limited.

Specifically, the required level of English for everyday communication is B1, and for confidence, it should be B2.
