This was shared by Ms. Truong Hai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Skills Competition and the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Self-Made Training Equipment Competition - 2025, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training on December 16th.
The exam is close to regional and international standards.
Ms. Truong Hai Thanh shared that in this year's Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Skills Competition, businesses have partnered with the competition by providing many modern machines and equipment in the fields of engineering, technology, electrical-electronics, refrigeration, etc., suitable for current trends, to help contestants practice. Through the competition, many students with strong skills have also been noticed by the participating businesses, thus confidently opening up job opportunities for them.
Ms. Thanh hopes that the students participating in the competition will increasingly love their profession, hone their skills daily to improve their expertise, and be ready to enter the labor market after graduation. They will be a source of labor meeting the integration needs of Ho Chi Minh City and the international community. At the same time, the students selected from the competition will continue to receive training to participate in the national vocational skills competition.

2025 marks the first year the exam is being held after Ho Chi Minh City's administrative unit merger. The Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training assessed that both the scale and quality of candidates have increased compared to previous years. This year's exam attracted 245 candidates from 31 institutions (1 university, 21 colleges, 8 vocational schools, and 1 enterprise). The Department also collaborated with universities, especially reputable enterprises in the city, to participate in grading and guiding candidates.
This year, candidates will compete in 14 key sectors prioritized for development in Ho Chi Minh City. The exam questions are based on national standards and updated according to ASEAN, Asian, and global standards, helping candidates access new technologies, techniques, and practical work processes.
Accompanying the competition, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hien Thanh, Director of the Sports Center at Hoa Sen University and Director of VinSon Sport Company, shared that businesses currently have a great need for skilled students and experienced workers. “You are all practical professionals, and businesses can find a source of highly skilled human resources through this competition to supply the labor market,” Dr. Hien Thanh added.

Contestant Tran Le Thuy Vy (20 years old), from Hung Vuong Vocational College of Technology, won first prize in the graphic design category and expressed her joy at achieving a high ranking in her first participation in the competition. Vy said that to create a beautiful design, one must ensure a good layout and skillfully use advanced tools and effects… “After finishing high school, I decided to pursue vocational training because the learning path is faster, there is more practical training, and I can start working sooner. In a few months, I will graduate and officially start working,” Vy shared.
Contestant Giang Thi Anh (19 years old), from Vien Dong College, participated in the competition for the first time and excellently won first prize in the beauty care profession. Anh shared that the competition process was not too difficult, and she applied most of the skills she had learned. Regarding her reason for choosing a vocational course, Anh shared that she knew she wasn't suited to a university environment, but she had a passion for beauty care and wanted to learn a practical, hands-on skill. "I still practice my skills every day, and I hope to start working soon to gain more experience. In the future, I hope to open my own spa," Anh said with a smile.

Ly Tu Trong College won two first prizes in the self-made training equipment category.
At the Ho Chi Minh City Self-Made Training Equipment Competition, the organizing committee awarded three first prizes to three groups of authors. Two of the first prizes went to the group from Ly Tu Trong College in Ho Chi Minh City for their models: “Multifunctional Refrigeration System with Monitoring, Control and Automation based on Industry 4.0 Technology” and “Fiber Laser Machine Model”. The Ho Chi Minh City College of Transport won first prize for its intelligent railway crossing monitoring and control system.
This year, Ly Tu Trong College in Ho Chi Minh City had 4 out of 7 participating models win high awards (2 first prizes, 1 second prize, and 1 third prize). All participating models focused on applying new technologies, linking practice – real-world application – production, and enhancing the research and technical innovation capabilities of students.
In addition, Ly Tu Trong College in Ho Chi Minh City won first prize overall in the competition; second prize went to Dong An High-Tech College; Thu Duc College of Technology won third prize; and two consolation prizes went to Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College and the College of Transport.

Regarding the results of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Skills Competition, the organizing committee awarded first prizes to 13 individual contestants and 1 group of contestants in 14 professions. Among them, Hung Vuong Technical and Technological Vocational College won 3 first prizes. Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, Cao Thang Technical College, Saigontourist Tourism and Hotel Vocational College, and Nguyen Tat Thanh Vocational College each won 2 first prizes.
