Authorities have seized over 1,000 bags of white rice imported from India to Ben Tre province that lacked Vietnamese labels, pending further action.
This information was just released by the Ben Tre Market Management Department. The shipment weighed 52 tons and had a total value of 624 million VND.
According to authorities, the shipment was imported by a rice trading establishment in An Dinh 2 hamlet, An Ngai Trung commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province. During an inspection, market management officials discovered that this establishment showed signs of violating regulations in its rice trading activities.

Specifically, this batch of rice lacked a Vietnamese-language label. The inspection team recorded the incident and temporarily seized the rice for further processing.
This is the largest shipment of rice seized by authorities since 2022. Last year, the agency also confiscated 30 tons of rice suspected of being smuggled from India.
According to the General Department of Market Management, the situation regarding imported rice is complex and significantly impacts the domestic rice market. Therefore, the agency is directing provincial market management departments to intensify inspections and controls to detect and strictly handle acts of smuggling and trade fraud related to rice.
