The joy of having a new home

In the early days of summer, the family of Mr. Poloong Kong (village 49A, Dac Pring commune) was filled with the laughter of border guards and young people in the commune when they came to help Mr. Kong build a new house. Mr. Kong was very happy because after many years of dreaming, the new house was almost completed.

Mr. Poloong Kong’s family is poor, living for many years in a rickety wooden house with a patchwork corrugated iron roof, which has deteriorated over the rainy and flood seasons. Although he works hard, his wife is often sick and has two young children of school age, so Mr. Poloong Kong does not have enough savings to build a solid house.

From the Quang Nam provincial budget, Poloong Kong’s family received 60 million VND to build a house. The commune’s youth union members and soldiers from the Dac Pring Border Guard Station also came to support the construction workers, thereby significantly reducing costs during the house construction process.

“When the government informed me that my family was on the list of people eligible for support to remove temporary houses, I was so happy that I couldn’t sleep. Now that we have a new house, I don’t have to worry about the rainy season anymore and my children have a proper place to study. I would like to thank the young people and soldiers who enthusiastically helped my family build a house,” Kong said emotionally.

Not only Mr. Kong, Ms. Poloong Thi Liem (village 56A, Dac Pre commune) has also just rebuilt her house that had been tilted for many years. "Every time it rains, I stay up all night because I'm afraid the roof will collapse. Now that I have a new house, I feel protected, have a solid place to live in peace on my homeland" - Ms. Poloong Thi Liem said.

Ms. Liem shared: "Now that I have a secure home, I will try to grow more upland rice and raise chickens to have food, clothes and escape poverty."

Together for the people

Since the beginning of 2024, Dac Pring commune has mobilized to build 19 houses for poor and near-poor households. Many of these houses were completed by the hands of the commune's youth union members and officers and soldiers of Dac Pring Border Guard Station.

Mr. Kring Phieu - Secretary of the Youth Union of Dac Pring commune said that the Youth Union of the commune aims to support the construction of 3 more houses this year to help the government complete the goal of eliminating temporary houses.

At the front line of the border, Dac Pring Border Guard Station not only performs national defense tasks, but also serves as a solid support for people in social security work. According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Danh - Political Commissar of Dac Pring Border Guard Station, officers and soldiers of the unit regularly coordinate with local authorities to propagate and guide people to build sustainable livelihood models.

The unit advised the Provincial Border Guard Command to coordinate with the local authorities to organize the donation of 22 breeding cows to 11 households. It mobilized benefactors and coordinated with local schools to select 5 students with difficult circumstances to receive 5 bicycles.

Organizing the program "Spring on the border, warm the hearts of the villagers" and coordinating with the Women's Union of Quang Nam province, the Women's Union of Nam Giang district mobilized nearly 723 million VND to give gifts to people in the area.

In addition, the Dac Pring Border Guard Station also coordinated with the Quang Nam Province Legal Aid Center to organize legal propaganda and give many valuable gifts to people in especially difficult circumstances in Dac Pring commune. Many households, after receiving housing support, boldly changed their production, raising black pigs, chickens, etc., opening a way out of poverty.

As for the temporary housing elimination program, since the beginning of 2024, the Border Guard Station has organized 5 working sessions, mobilizing 75 officers and soldiers, contributing more than 200 working days to directly participate in building houses for people. In addition, the unit also mobilized organizations and individuals to support funding, contributing to the construction of 9 houses in 2024. In 2025, 5 more new houses were handed over, and 1 other house is being urgently completed.

“The temporary housing elimination program not only helps people have safe places to live, but is also a way to maintain the people's hearts and minds at the border. When people feel secure in their land and villages, the border will be truly secure.”
