Gilberto Silva's visit to Vietnam will take place in early August. |
The legendary former Brazilian defensive midfielder is expected to be at Le Loi - Nguyen Hue pedestrian street (Ho Chi Minh City) on August 2nd to meet and interact with fans. The legend, born in 1976, had a brilliant career with 244 appearances for Arsenal from 2002 to 2008, making his mark with the fastest goal in the club's history at Emirates Stadium (21 seconds against PSV Eindhoven).
Silva was also a key player in the Arsenal team that won the Premier League title in the 2003/04 season (unbeaten all season) and two FA Cups (2003 and 2005). Gilberto Silva and Patrick Vieira formed one of the best central midfield partnerships in Premier League history.
Compared to many of his teammates at Highbury at the time, such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires, or Fredrik Ljungberg, the Brazilian star was considerably less prominent. However, Silva was considered an extremely important link in Wenger's team because of his disciplined, diligent, and powerful playing style.
After leaving Arsenal, the former Brazilian star went on to play for renowned clubs in Greece and Brazil such as Panathinaikos and Atletico Mineiro before retiring in 2013.
Since then, Gilberto has transitioned into roles as a football coach and ambassador, becoming particularly well-known for his patronage of The Street League – a community football organization in England.
