According to IDP, the IELTS certificate is currently trusted by more than 12,000 organizations both domestically and internationally.

On the morning of May 9th, IDP Vietnam officially issued a statement regarding the controversial case of illegally issuing 56,230 IELTS certificates in 2022. The announcement was posted on its official fanpage and website, less than a day after the Ministry of Education and Training's Inspectorate concluded that the company had illegally organized and issued certificates in over 30 provinces and cities across Vietnam.

According to IDP, the validity of IELTS certificates in 2022 is attracting considerable attention from test-takers. Regarding this issue, IDP affirms: "Certificates issued during this period are still recognized by over 12,000 organizations worldwide ."

"We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Education and Training as we have always done to ensure compliance with all requirements of local authorities at all levels," IDP said.

Previously, from January 1st to September 9th, 2022, IDP collaborated to organize 458 test sessions in over 30 provinces and cities, issuing 46,643 IELTS certificates. From September 10th to November 16th, 2022, IDP organized 97 in-person test sessions, along with computer-based tests in Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, issuing an additional 9,587 certificates. These test sessions were conducted without authorization from the Ministry of Education and Training, according to the Ministry's Inspectorate.

According to regulations, incorrectly issued certificates will be invalid for high school graduation or university admissions. This information has caused many students to worry about whether it will affect their eligibility for exemption from the high school graduation exam, university admissions as the exam season approaches, or their previous university admission and graduation results. The public is also questioning who will be responsible for compensating students if their IELTS certificates are not accepted.

Previously, the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) sent a document to provincial Departments of Education and Training regarding the use of certificates to exempt candidates from the foreign language exam in the 2023 high school graduation exam, stating: "Candidates who have registered to take the 2023 high school graduation exam may use foreign language proficiency certificates issued after September 10, 2022, to be considered for exemption from the foreign language exam according to regulations."

IELTS is an international English proficiency assessment system, currently accepted by over 100 higher education institutions in Vietnam for converting test results into English scores for admissions. The Ministry of Education and Training also allows candidates with an IELTS score of 4.5 or higher to be exempt from the high school graduation exam in a foreign language. According to IELTS statistics, the average IELTS score for Vietnamese people in 2022 was 6.2, ranking 23rd in the world.
