Information indicates that these are mechanical buttons, not capacitive ones. iPhone users will be able to zoom in and out by swiping the button left and right, focus with a light press, and activate recording with a firmer press.
According to the latest leaks, the iPhone 16 will have an additional camera button.
Apple plans to place the camera button on the right side of the iPhone, below the power button, ideally positioned for easy finger access when the iPhone is held horizontally. Currently, this is where the mmWave antenna is located, but the antenna will move to the left side of the device once this button is added.
According to The Information , Apple believes the new button will boost sales of the iPhone 16 line and it's being introduced to help the iPhone replace the camera and make it more convenient for users to shoot video horizontally.
This information also matches a leak previously confirmed by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, which stated that the iPhone 16 will have a new button for recording video.
According to Gizchina , the new camera button may only be available on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Previously, Apple introduced a new Action button for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, replacing the mute button found on previous iPhone models.
