According to an official announcement on the Telegram app, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that its air defense system was activated overnight.
"After air raid sirens sounded at 1:35 a.m. (local time) in several areas of northern Israel, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) intercepted two artillery shells flying from Lebanon into Israeli territory," the Israeli military said.
Additionally, the radar system detected a "suspicious airborne target." This object subsequently fell into Israeli territory, near the border with Lebanon. Military officials confirmed that no casualties were reported.
Just before the attack, US President Donald Trump announced that he had successfully persuaded Israel and Hezbollah to de-escalate tensions. On the social media platform Truth Social, Trump asserted that he had a "very productive" phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "No forces will enter Beirut, and any troops that were en route have been ordered to turn back."
The White House leader also stated that, through high-ranking representatives, he had positive discussions with Hezbollah: "They have agreed to cease all hostilities. Israel will not attack them, and conversely, they will not attack Israel." The US President also emphasized his hope that the two sides would end the conflict "permanently."
However, in response to statements from Washington, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a very strong message. Netanyahu confirmed he had spoken with President Trump but stressed the core condition: "If Hezbollah does not stop attacking our towns and citizens, Israel will strike terrorist targets in Beirut."
Conflict in the Middle East escalated on March 2nd when Hezbollah in Lebanon decided to become more deeply involved in the war by launching a barrage of rockets at Israel. This move was declared in retaliation for the US and Israel's assassination of Iran's supreme leader.
The international community has attempted to establish a ceasefire agreement to end the fighting on April 17, but this agreement has become fragile and has been repeatedly violated by both sides on the ground.
