Israel and Hezbollah are engaged in fierce fighting.

Intense fighting continued between Israel and Hezbollah on June 2nd, even as diplomats from both sides were holding direct talks in Washington.

Fighting erupted across southern Lebanon, killing at least five people and damaging several medical facilities. Israel claimed to have successfully intercepted two projectiles launched from Lebanon.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that he had brokered a ceasefire agreement. However, neither side has publicly accepted President Trump's proposal.

A senior Hezbollah representative asserted that the group would not accept a partial ceasefire, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized Hezbollah as the sole obstacle to peace.

The negotiations in Washington took place against the backdrop of the most serious escalation of hostilities in two decades, after Israel launched a ground operation deep into Lebanon and bombed the outskirts of Beirut.

According to Axios, President Trump exerted significant pressure behind the scenes, criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for undermining parallel peace talks with Iran. In response to Israel's military actions, Iran also announced a temporary suspension of negotiations with the US, although President Trump denied this.
