On December 3, the Milan City Prosecutor's Office in northern Italy opened an investigation into illegal activities of 13 luxury brands in the "Made in Italy" fashion supply chain, related to working conditions in factories abroad.
According to a VNA reporter in Rome, the fashion brands ordered to hand over documents to the police include Versace, Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Ferragamo, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Pinko, Coccinelle, Adidas, Alexander McQueen Italia and Off-White Operating.
The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has a full list of key suppliers in each brand's supply chain, the number of workers working in exploitative and deplorable conditions, as well as the confiscated items.
These brands are now being asked to voluntarily submit documents on prevention and audit organization models, either internally or through advisory-consultant mandates, to allow them time to correct violations and restructure their supply chains, avoiding the application of heavy administrative and judicial measures.
In recent weeks, the Milan Prosecutor's Office has opened a similar investigation into Tod's Holdings and its CEO, Diego Della Valle, saying it could impose special management requirements and a ban if the brands do not adjust their procurement structures and currently illegal labor arrangements.
Since March 2024, the Milan Court has also ordered judicial administration but not investigation of Alviero Martini Joint Stock Company, Armani Operation, Manufacture Dior, Valentino Bags Lab and Loro Piana di Louis Vuitton.
These companies were deemed negligent and unintentionally facilitated exploitation./.
