In the final scenes, The Boys make their way into the White House, while Hughie and MM confront Oh Father, and Butcher and Kimiko break into the Oval Office just as Homelander is giving a public speech. Homelander mutters about becoming the lord of the ashes after wiping out humanity, and then living in eternal solitude.
Just then, Butcher appeared with his crowbar, and a battle ensued. This was the showdown the audience had been waiting for. However, the events unfolded rather unexpectedly, lacking the explosive and spectacular intensity expected. The entire fight was confined to the Oval Office, and the room itself suffered almost no significant damage.
According to Forbes , Homelander – despite having injected himself with the V1 serum – appears weaker than ever. The laser beams from his eyes no longer cleave enemies in two, but only knock them away. Homelander's super speed (which was once on par with A-Train) is now insufficient to dodge Butcher's tentacles. Previously, Homelander could easily cut Kimiko in half with his laser, but now that attack only manages to knock her down.
Moreover, what ultimately defeats Homelander isn't the Superman-killing virus or Soldier Boy—things the series has painstakingly pursued—but rather an experiment completed by Frenchie and Sister Sage in the previous episode without any prior preparation. This is considered a "godsend" solution, completely unconvincing to the audience.

However, the most controversial aspect is the final moments of the villain Homelander. Having possessed overwhelming power over the rest of the world for many seasons, the butcher now trembles, weeps, and begs for his life before being ruthlessly killed by Butcher.
This scene has been dissected on social media and numerous film forums, and is considered utterly disappointing. Many viewers have criticized The Boys for building the character of Homelander in a way that starts strong but ends weakly, with an ending that is completely disproportionate to what has been built up over the years.
