According to the General Statistics Office, in July, Vietnam welcomed 1.15 million international visitors, up 10.9% over the same period last year. In the first 7 months of 2024, international visitors to our country reached nearly 10 million, up 51% over the same period last year and up 1.9% over the same period in 2019 - the year before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the total of nearly 10 million international arrivals to Vietnam, arrivals by air reached 8.4 million, accounting for 84.2% of the total number of international arrivals to Vietnam and an increase of 45.1% over the same period last year. Arrivals by land reached 1.4 million, accounting for 14.1% and an increase of 84.2%. Arrivals by sea reached 165,500, accounting for 1.7% and 3 times higher than the same period in 2023.

In terms of market size, South Korea continues to be the largest market sending visitors to Vietnam with nearly 2.6 million arrivals (accounting for 26%). China ranks second, reaching 2.1 million arrivals (accounting for 21.4%). The two markets of South Korea and China contribute nearly 50% of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam.
In third place is Taiwan (China) with 732 thousand arrivals, the US in fourth place (478 thousand arrivals), Japan in fifth place (380 thousand arrivals). In the top 10 largest markets of Vietnamese tourism, there are also Malaysia and Australia (281 thousand arrivals), India (272 thousand arrivals), Cambodia (260 thousand arrivals), Thailand (248 thousand arrivals).
In terms of growth drivers, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first 7 months of 2024 increased by 51% compared to the same period in 2023. Southeast Asian markets also achieved good growth, such as Indonesia (+107%), Philippines (+58%), Malaysia (+7%), Cambodia (+15%), Singapore (+6%). Only the Thai market decreased by 14.5%. The two potential markets in 7th and 8th place, Australia and India, continued to grow well, both reaching 27%. The market connection and tourism promotion activities of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism in Australia in June will create momentum for stronger growth of this market in the coming time.
European markets continued to grow well in the first 7 months of the year (+47%). Most markets grew positively, including major markets such as: UK (+25%), France (+33%), Germany (+27%), Russia (+75%). Besides, there are Italy (+61%), Spain (+38%), Sweden (+27%), Switzerland (+25%), Denmark (+26%), Belgium (+26%), Norway (+21%)...
Notably, despite being the low season for international tourism, the number of visitors from European markets in July still increased compared to the previous month. This is a very positive signal from a key area of Vietnam tourism, showing the effectiveness of the open visa policy and the efforts of management agencies, tourism businesses and localities in promoting tourism in key markets such as France, Germany, Italy and Russia.
As a result, tourism revenue in the first 7 months of 2024 is estimated at 35.2 trillion VND, up 31.8% over the same period last year. To attract international visitors to Vietnam, in the second half of 2024, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is expected to continue implementing programs to introduce Vietnamese tourism abroad such as China, India, Australia and New Zealand, organize a program to promote Vietnamese tourism and cinema in the United States; and participate in a number of international tourism fairs.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, with the peak international tourist season coming in the last months of the year, along with a series of tourism promotion activities in many key markets, it is expected that the Vietnamese tourism industry will successfully complete the goal of welcoming 17-18 million international visitors in 2024.
