Mr. Le Hai Long stated that drowning is currently the leading cause of death among children in Vietnam. Despite numerous efforts from various sectors and organizations, more than 1,900 children still drown each year. Therefore, the Central Committee of the Youth Union has issued directives and implemented many activities to equip children with skills to prevent and respond to drowning.

This year's summer opening activities are very meaningful.

Mr. Long added that within the framework of the 2023 Summer Opening Program, in response to the Month of Action for Children organized by the Central Youth Union and the Central Children's Council, this swimming lesson activity will promote and spread the spirit of the Youth Union and Children's Council, highlight healthy values, and equip children with necessary skills to play safely and beneficially during the summer.
Former swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien shared that swimming is very important, helping her to cope in the water and save the lives of others in drowning situations.
Ánh Viên also shared her own experience, saying that her parents were determined to have her learn to swim very early because they feared she might drown. Therefore, Ánh Viên believes that it's not necessary to be a skilled swimmer; simply knowing how to swim to stay afloat is a success for children. Ánh Viên also urged parents to pay more attention to their children's swimming lessons to prevent such tragic drowning incidents.
Ánh Viên drove over 30 km to attend a free swimming class for young children.
