The Tien La Festival pays tribute to the great contributions of General Vu Thi Thuc, also known as Dong Nhung Dai Tung. Driven by a sense of duty and personal affection, at a time when the Trung Sisters were issuing proclamations urging the people to rise up and drive out the Han invaders, General Vu Thi Thuc led the army to fight against the invaders. After ascending the throne, the Trung Sisters rewarded the soldiers and bestowed upon her the title of Dong Nhung Dai Tung, the highest-ranking general. Nearly 2000 years have passed, and the complex of relics dedicated to General Vu Thi Thuc in the ancient land of Da Cuong has gradually become worthy of the great contributions of this national hero, becoming one of the unmissable cultural and spiritual tourism destinations in the rice-growing region of Thai Binh. According to ancient tradition, the Tien La Festival is held annually on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month at the Tien La Temple, Buom Temple, and Ray Temple. These are national relics located in Doan Hung and Tan Tien communes (Hung Ha district). During the festival days, many spiritual rituals, folk games, and performances are organized; many ancient customs that have been meticulously maintained are reenacted. On April 15, 2016, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision to include the Tien La Festival in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

The Tien La Festival is an occasion for people from all walks of life in Hung Ha district in particular, and Thai Binh province in general, along with compatriots and tourists from all over, to offer incense and pay tribute to the national heroine; at the same time, it contributes to educating the younger generation about the principle of remembering one's roots, about love for the homeland, national pride and self-respect, and the tradition of heroic, indomitable, and resilient struggle against foreign invaders.

Prior to the opening ceremony, delegates attended a ritual of paying respects and offering incense to commemorate the contributions of General Vu Thi Thuc of Dong Nhung.
