At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Trung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho Lon Ward, said: "The 'Lantern Street of Cho Lon Ward' was created with the goal of preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of the locality, while also creating a shopping, sightseeing, and experiential space with a strong cultural and tourism identity. More than just a place for fun during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the 'Lantern Street' has become an attractive cultural destination, drawing numerous domestic and international tourists, contributing to promoting the image of Cho Lon Ward and Ho Chi Minh City."
Beyond its spiritual value, the "Lantern Street" also holds profound socio -economic significance. Every year, it welcomes tens of thousands of visitors who come to sightsee, shop, experience the local cuisine, have fun, and take photos. This activity has contributed to increasing local income, promoting the development of trade and services, and improving the quality of life for the community. It serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity, opening up opportunities for sustainable tourism development and making a positive contribution to the overall development of the city.
Ms. Thuy Nga, a resident of Cho Lon ward, shared: “Like every year, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, I go to the 'Lantern Street' with my family to stroll around. The atmosphere here is very special, evoking childhood memories and bringing the joy of family reunion. I hope this activity will be maintained for a long time so that the younger generation can continue to appreciate and cherish this traditional beauty.”
Eight-year-old Khanh Ngoc (from Cho Lon ward) excitedly said: “I really enjoy being taken to the 'Lantern Street' by my mom. There are so many beautiful lanterns and fun games here. I hope to come here every Mid-Autumn Festival to carry lanterns with my friends.”
According to the organizers, the "Lantern Street of Cho Lon Ward" will take place from September 24th to October 6th, 2025. Throughout this period, numerous cultural exchange activities, performances, lion and dragon dances, and traditional games will be organized, offering locals and tourists experiences rich in traditional cultural identity.
Cho Lon Ward, a melting pot of Vietnamese and Chinese cultures, has long been famous for its streets specializing in lanterns and other products for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Traditional lanterns such as star lanterns, carp lanterns, revolving lanterns, and flying dragon lanterns, along with modern battery-powered lanterns, mooncakes, and many other products, create a vibrant and lively festive atmosphere every August in the lunar calendar.
