Medical examination and treatment on demand will be subject to the new price framework.

The above prices are stipulated in Circular 13/2023/TT-BYT, which regulates the price framework and pricing methods for on-demand medical examination and treatment services provided by state-owned medical facilities, issued by the Ministry of Health and effective from today, August 15th.

Specifically, the price range for on-demand medical examination services at special-grade and grade 1 hospitals is a minimum of 100,000 VND/visit and a maximum of 500,000 VND/visit. For other medical facilities, the minimum price is 30,500 VND and the maximum is 300,000 VND/visit. The price range for on-demand inpatient treatment days does not include medication costs and medical technical services as follows:

The Ministry of Health also clarified that, specifically in cases where domestic or foreign personnel are invited to provide health examinations and consultations, the unit is allowed to charge according to the price agreed upon between the medical facility and the service user.

According to Circular 13, robotic endoscopic surgery is the most expensive service. The most expensive is robotic endoscopic surgery for thoracic diseases, with a maximum price of over 134 million VND and a minimum price of over 91 million VND.

Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery for gastrointestinal and abdominal diseases costs a maximum of over 124 million VND and a minimum of over 96.6 million VND.

In the category of diagnostic imaging services, the most expensive service is PET/CT imaging for radiotherapy simulation, with a maximum price of over 28.7 million VND and a minimum price of over 20.5 million VND, excluding contrast agents. For PET/CT imaging, the maximum price is over 27.8 million VND, and the minimum price is over 19.7 million VND.

Other high-cost medical services include: 4D color Doppler echocardiography (no more than 826,000 VND/session); 32-slice CT scan with contrast agent (no more than 1,584,000 VND/session); 262-slice or higher CT scan with contrast agent (no more than 5,250,000 VND/session); coronary angiography or cardiac catheterization under DSA (no more than 10,150,000 VND/session); arthrography of arteriovenous malformations and intervention for neurovascular diseases under DSA (no more than 23,111,000 VND/session); magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with contrast agent (no more than 3,701,000 VND/session);...

The Ministry of Health stated that the application of this new price framework does not affect people with health insurance cards; nor does it affect people without health insurance cards who do not voluntarily register to use on-demand medical examination and treatment services.

The fees for on-demand medical examination and treatment services only apply to individuals who voluntarily register to use these services (accounting for 5-10% at provincial and central hospitals...).
