On the morning of June 1st, Thanh Thanh Phat Passenger Transport Company Limited held the inauguration ceremony for the Phu Quy Express 02 high-speed ferry, officially launching the passenger transport route between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao and vice versa.

Ho Chi Minh City will begin operating the high-speed ferry route from Nha Rong Port - Khanh Hoi to Con Dao Island from June 1st.
According to the company, this marks the return of Phu Quy Express to the sea transport route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Con Dao after a temporary suspension of operations from September 2025 for maintenance, upgrading of the fleet, and investment in new vessels to meet actual transport needs.
Phu Quy Express 02 is a high-speed passenger vessel with a triple-hulled aluminum alloy hull, newly built at Hong Ha Shipyard (Z173), a unit under the General Department of Defense Industry - Ministry of Defense . The vessel has been certified by the Vietnam Register as fully meeting all technical standards, maritime safety and environmental protection regulations.
The vessel has a maximum length of 52.43 m, a width of 10.3 m, a draft of 1.35 m, a gross tonnage of 493 GT, and a deadweight of nearly 77 tons. It is equipped with two Japanese Mitsubishi S16R2-T2MPTK2 engines with a total power of 4,190 kW, equivalent to 5,700 horsepower, allowing for an operating speed of approximately 30 knots.
Construction began on April 1, 2025, at the Hong Ha Shipyard. The ship has a registered capacity of 527 passengers, while the actual operating capacity is arranged to carry 498 passengers in order to improve service quality and ensure passenger comfort.
The ship's interior features 258 VIP seats, 126 standard seats, 8 VIP beds, and 106 standard beds. The modern design aims to enhance the passenger experience on long journeys while also improving stability during operations at sea.
According to the operating plan, the travel time between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao is expected to be approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes, depending on actual weather conditions. The company plans to operate one trip per day during the week and increase it to two trips per day on weekends, holidays, and Tet (Lunar New Year) when travel demand is high.
