According to the detailed planning for the group of seaports, wharves, jetties, mooring buoys, water areas, and water zones for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, recently approved by the Prime Minister , three seaports are planned for the development of yacht marinas when conditions permit, including: Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, and Phan Thiet wharves.
Specifically, by 2030, the Nha Trang port area will have 3 berths (including 5 piers) meeting the needs for cargo throughput of 0.1 to 0.2 million tons and passenger throughput of 349,900 to 392,900 passengers. Of these, the passenger port in the Nha Trang port area is planned to accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 225,000 GT, and yacht marinas will be developed when conditions permit.
The Cam Ranh port area comprises 7 berths (including 19 piers) capable of handling 5.5 to 6.5 million tons of cargo and 80,000 to 90,000 passengers. The passenger port in the Cam Ranh area is planned to accommodate vessels with a tonnage of up to 225,000 GT. The port also handles general cargo, liquid cargo, and will develop yacht marinas when conditions permit.
Phan Thiet Port (part of Binh Thuan seaport) comprises 3 berths capable of handling 0.2 to 0.3 million tons of cargo and 470,400 to 481,700 passengers. The port can accommodate vessels up to 5,000 tons and is planned to incorporate a passenger terminal and develop marinas when conditions permit.
According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration's yacht management plan, in recent years, several Vietnamese individuals and entities have engaged in the business, distribution, purchase, operation, and use of yachts for personal purposes, recreation, entertainment, and sports . To date, more than 200 vessels have been imported and operated in Vietnam, similar to the private yacht model worldwide. Notably, the market for superyachts and long-stay cruises in Vietnam has rapidly risen to become one of the most attractive destinations for cruise ships in the Asian region, with over 500 voyages per year. In 2017, Vietnam ranked among the countries with the highest number of yacht arrivals in the region, after Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. Vietnam is increasingly becoming a popular destination for tourists from the United States, Australia, Europe, and other Asian countries. Of these options, cruising is considered one of the best ways to explore one of these amazing regions.
