The memorial site for General Secretary Le Duan was started in 2002 in Hau Kien village, Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province - where General Secretary Le Duan was born and raised, to pay tribute, commemorate, andeducate revolutionary traditions for today's and future generations. The project was ranked as a national monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2010.
Over time, the initial investment conditions were limited, the Memorial Site has deteriorated, not meeting the requirements of welcoming officials, people and tourists from all over the world. Therefore, Quang Tri province has proactively proposed to invest in the Project to Preserve and Restore the Memorial Site of General Secretary Le Duan.
With a total investment of 45 billion VND, the project focuses on the main items: preserving, renovating and restoring the Memorial House; upgrading the Exhibition - Memorial House; building the Management and Reception House, main gate, monument stele, river wharf, embankment system, garden, electricity, water, lighting...

The items are designed in harmony, associated with the local cultural space, ensuring reception function, while preserving and promoting the original values of the relics about the life of comrade Le Duan.
Comrade Le Duan, real name Le Van Nhuan, was born on April 7, 1907 in a family with a tradition of patriotism, humanity and studiousness in Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province.
During nearly 60 years of revolutionary activities, with 26 consecutive years in the position of First Secretary and then General Secretary of the Party Central Committee from 1960 to 1986 - a period of decisive nature for the fate of the nation, comrade Le Duan, together with the Politburo and the Party Central Committee, outlined and comprehensively led the major strategies of the Vietnamese revolution, bringing the cause of national liberation to complete victory, and firmly stepping on the path of building socialism.
Comrade Le Duan was the one who proposed and built many sharp and creative strategic lines, especially in directing the revolution in the South - notably with the "Outline of the Southern Revolution" - a milestone theoretical document, serving as the basis for many important Resolutions of the Party later.

Under his direct leadership, our entire Party, people and army overcame countless sacrifices and hardships to achieve the Great Victory in the Spring of 1975, completely liberating the South and reunifying the country.
Not only was he an outstanding leader on the political and military front, comrade Le Duan was also a great theorist, a creative thinker of the era, with hundreds of valuable political and theoretical works, contributing to shaping and developing Vietnamese revolutionary ideology in the Ho Chi Minh era.
After more than half a century of tireless revolutionary activities, General Secretary Le Duan left the Party and the nation an extremely valuable legacy – absolute loyalty to the Fatherland and the People; intellectual height, organizational talent, scientific and creative revolutionary methods; a friendly and sociable nature, a heart full of compassion, and a belief in the nation's future, even in the most difficult and challenging circumstances…/.
