Tran Thi Duyen is one of the Vietnamese players turning five years old, when Giap Thin 2024 knocks on the door. Reaching the mature age of 24, Duyen also aspires to have a big change in her career.
The will of the "doll"
In 2017, Tran Thi Duyen first stepped onto the professional playing field. The girl from Ha Nam soon became the focus of the media. One night right after the first match in Ha Nam, Tran Thi Duyen emerged on social networks and was called the cutest female player in the Vietnamese football world.
Tran Thi Duyen is actually a player with potential, but unfortunately in the next few years she could not make any mark other than her appearance. The main reason why this female player's career did not go as expected was a very serious injury in her early years. There was even a time when Tran Thi Duyen thought about quitting football early to study beauty.
Tran Thi Duyen recounted that difficult time: “It was 2019. My schedule was quite tight. I just played with the U19 Vietnamese women and then participated in the women's national championship with Phong Phu Ha Nam Club. Maybe because I was overloaded, I tore my ligament after only 15 minutes on the field.
It was such a simple situation that I didn't think I could tear my ligaments anymore. I turned around and suddenly felt a sharp pain in my knee. I fell down and cried loudly on the field. After the doctor assisted me, I went onto the field. But in just a few dozen seconds, I knew I couldn't continue playing anymore."
The girl born in 2000 asked many doctors for diagnosis and it was not until surgery was completed that Tran Thi Duyen accepted the fact that she had torn her ligament. However, the surgery is only the beginning. The post-operative process is a big challenge for any player.
“Normal people have a hard time after surgery. Our players have a harder time," Duyen confided. “We also lack many care conditions. I encouraged myself to make an effort and then asked experienced women to find recovery exercises. There was a time when I thought I would quit football and find another, more suitable job."
Duyen continued: “But the fate of football has not let me say goodbye to this sport. During my recovery period, I was encouraged by my friends and teachers. They said I was still young and had time to strive and contribute. So, I gradually overcome it and then truly return to Phong Phu Ha Nam or the Vietnamese team."
Aspiration in five years old
Overcoming a challenging period, Tran Thi Duyen gradually tried to find a place from Phong Phu Ha Nam Club to the Vietnam national team. When she turned five years old, Duyen also understood that she was no longer a young player who allowed mistakes and naivety. Tran Thi Duyen is also more mature, with a more mature outlook on both life and career.
She confided: “I want to win a major title with Phong Phu Ha Nam at the national women's tournament. I want to be on the Vietnamese team to compete in the SEA Games, Southeast Asia tournament or World Cup qualifiers. I want to not have to regret anything when one day I say goodbye to football."
2024 is also the time when Vietnamese women's football changes strongly. Coach Mai Duc Chung retreated backstage, ceding a new phase with both challenges and opportunities to his successor in the Vietnamese women's team. Before retiring, Mr. Chung also devoted himself to efforts to rejuvenate the "Golden Star Female Warriors" force.
Among them, faces born in 2000 and later such as Thanh Nha, Van Su, and Tran Thi Duyen are considered the core of the Vietnamese team. They also receive the expectation of being able to lead the generation of young players playing in the U20 Vietnam team, thereby creating a rejuvenation and force transfer at the national team level.
For Tran Thi Duyen, this couldn't be a better opportunity for her to take a big step forward in her soccer career to become a recognized good player, completely breaking away from the image of a "hot girl" on the field.
