Recently, young people in the province have enthusiastically organized practical and meaningful activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024). This is an opportunity for each young person to learn about and rekindle pride in the heroic era of their ancestors, while also fostering a sense of responsibility towards the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Members of the Youth Union and students of the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School learn about the weapons used in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, which were displayed at the "Igniting the Tradition" seminar commemorating the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory.

History must never be forgotten.

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh taught: "Our people must know our history/ To understand the origins of our Vietnamese nation." The history of our country is the heroic sacrifice of countless generations of ancestors who endured difficult and arduous wars of resistance to achieve national independence. Educating everyone, especially the younger generation, about history and traditional cultural values is extremely necessary. To enhance the attractiveness and effectiveness of history education , the Local Education program has been implemented at all levels, providing interesting and meaningful learning experiences for both teachers and students.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thanh, a history teacher at Hoang Van Thu High School for the Gifted, shared: "With the curriculum distributed according to each grade level, field, and thematic group, along with the rich and diverse forms of teaching and learning, local education lessons have brought students back to the land they live on, helping them learn about the history, potential, and strengths of their homeland, as well as the depth of the culture of various ethnic groups. This simultaneously develops students' abilities and qualities while contributing to the preservation of the cultural values of the ethnic communities."

Besides academic learning, enhancing the attractiveness and effectiveness of this educational content requires the joint efforts and coordination of various organizations, especially the Youth Union, to innovate methods towards flexibility and diversity in extracurricular activities that connect theory with practice. Comrade Nguyen Duy Tu, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, stated: "The responsibility and goal of the Youth Union is to awaken patriotism and national pride in young people through its activities. This helps young people understand clearly and correctly the wars of resistance to protect the Fatherland. In recent years, the Youth Union and its affiliated organizations have always been at the forefront in guiding and organizing young people to participate in activities that demonstrate patriotism." The dissemination of information about the significance and historical value of the event through the Youth Union's information channels and social media, the organization of extracurricular activities to learn about history, journeys to historical sites, offering incense at revolutionary landmarks, and giving gifts to families of martyrs, soldiers, youth volunteers, and civilian workers on the front lines... are all emphasized by Youth Union branches at all levels in the province.

Many meaningful and practical activities

The Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Children's Council recently organized a seminar titled "Igniting the Flame of Tradition" to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory at the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School. Over 830 youth union members, students, and young people from the school watched a documentary titled "70 Years of the Dien Bien Phu Victory: A Historic Decision," produced by the Nhan Dan Newspaper. Mr. Quach Minh An, Deputy Head of the Youth Union Building Department (Provincial Youth Union), stated: "The documentary evoked profound emotions and made a strong impression, especially on the younger generation, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the significance, scale, and historical value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory."

Bui Thanh Thao, a student in class 11B1 at the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School, shared: "After watching the film, I understand even more about the Dien Bien Phu Victory 70 years ago, the difficulties, hardships, losses, and sacrifices of our ancestors to win national independence. Today's young generation has the responsibility to strive and study well to preserve the achievements that our ancestors paid for with their blood and lives."

In addition, to create a beneficial platform for youth union members to recall important historical milestones, the seminar included other meaningful activities such as: a "Golden Bell" competition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory with the participation of 70 students; and a seminar titled "Igniting the Flame of Tradition" with sharing from Mr. Nguyen Quoc An, a soldier who directly participated in the historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign, about his heroic memories, thereby helping the students better understand the difficulties, hardships, and ferocity of the war, as well as the resourcefulness and bravery of the Dien Bien Phu soldiers of the past. On this occasion, the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Children's Council awarded prizes for the children's painting competition with the theme "I am a little soldier of Dien Bien Phu" in 2024. The participating works closely adhered to the theme; many paintings were not only beautiful in lines and colors but also carried profound meaning, expressing understanding and praise for the great historical significance and value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, as well as the emotions, thoughts, and changes in Dien Bien Phu today. At the same time, they honored and paid tribute to the generations of ancestors who bravely sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation.

In addition, there are many other meaningful programs such as the "I Love My Homeland" journey to Dien Bien Phu organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, with many activities to express gratitude, visit and give gifts to soldiers and former youth volunteers, display books, newspapers, war relics, etc., helping union members, young people, teenagers and children understand more about history; motivating and encouraging the spirit and responsibility of the younger generation on the path of self-cultivation, training, striving, following in the footsteps of their ancestors to contribute to the development of their homeland and country.
