Yen Thuan is a commune classified as a disadvantaged area in Ham Yen district, according to Decision No. 861/QD-TTg dated June 4, 2021, of the Prime Minister . With the strong determination of the Party Committee, government, and people, the appearance of this locality is increasingly improving, and the lives of the people are gradually being enhanced.
Yen Thuan commune currently has over 1,388 households with more than 5,800 inhabitants. In recent times, to help people in the area stabilize their lives, the commune has encouraged residents to actively apply science and technology to production; and to transform the structure of crops and livestock towards commodity production to meet market demands.
Recognizing that developing production is a central, continuous, and decisive task in raising income for people in rural areas, the Yen Thuan commune government has launched the "Excellent Farmers in Production and Business" emulation movement. Many exemplary members have emerged as successful entrepreneurs, sharing effective methods for other members to learn from.
In recent years, tea has truly become a crop that brings significant economic benefits, with local people investing in its cultivation, care, and processing. Currently, the commune maintains a tea cultivation area of over 344 hectares, with an average yield of 93 quintals/hectare. To ensure the sustainability and economic benefits of tea cultivation, Yen Thuan commune has collaborated with various departments, organizations, and agricultural extension officers to organize training courses on the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge in tea cultivation and care, achieving encouraging results.
Currently, Yen Thuan district has 5 cooperatives. Among them, Thuan Thuy Green Tea Cooperative is one of the 5 cooperatives eligible for support under the project "Developing sustainable agricultural and forestry production, leveraging the potential and strengths of regions to produce goods along the value chain". The green tea product of Thuan Thuy Cooperative has achieved OCOP 3-star rating. Thuan Thuy Cooperative currently has 7 members producing tea on an area of over 20 hectares, with members earning approximately 100 million VND/hectare.
Besides that, the model of growing four-season lemons is also a bright spot in the locality. The four-season lemon orchard on the hillside of Mr. Pham Van Quang in Son Thuy village is currently yielding a bountiful harvest. Mr. Quang shared that this year's off-season lemons are fetching good prices; at one point, he sold them at the orchard for up to 27,000 VND/kg, and currently they are selling for 18,000 VND/kg. If he continues to sell at this price, he expects to earn billions of VND this year from over 2,000 four-season lemon trees. Currently, the entire four-season lemon orchard of his family has been invested in an advanced irrigation system worth 200 million VND, ensuring the lemon trees have enough water for growth and produce beautiful, juicy fruit.
Mr. Do Van Hoa, Vice Chairman of the Ham Yen District People's Committee, said: In order for people in the district to escape poverty sustainably, Ham Yen district has integrated national target programs (the socio-economic development program for ethnic minority and mountainous areas; the sustainable poverty reduction program; and the new rural development program) to support production and create livelihoods for the people.
In particular, Ham Yen district has effectively implemented Resolution 03/NQ-HĐND dated July 16, 2021, of the Tuyen Quang Provincial People's Council on policies to support the development of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries commodity production; OCOP products and new rural construction in Tuyen Quang province for the period 2021-2025.
Thanks to the implementation of comprehensive solutions, Yen Thuan commune has undergone many changes, and the lives of its people have gradually improved. Currently, the commune has 344 hectares of tea plantations, 756 hectares of production forests, and 644 hectares of mandarin oranges. With the support of the State and the proactive development of family economies, by the end of 2023, the average per capita income of the commune reached 42 million VND/person/year; the multidimensional poverty rate was below 13%. To date, 100% of households have access to the national power grid; 100% of children attend school at the appropriate age; the percentage of households using clean water is over 90%... many lighting projects, schools, health stations, commune headquarters, and roads to villages have been built in a spacious and solid manner.
