Removing bottlenecks will ensure Lam Dong's tourism industry attracts more visitors than just tourists.

Lam Dong's tourism sector has seen significant growth recently, becoming an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists. However, to elevate this sector in the future, the locality urgently needs tourism products that are both innovative and create substantial value.

There are still bottlenecks.

Lam Dong is entering a new phase of development. With its vast natural area, stretching from the plateau to the blue sea, it possesses potentials and advantages that few other localities have.

To develop, the locality focuses all resources on upgrading tourism towards green and sustainable growth. Through many efforts, Lam Dong has become an ideal destination for domestic and international tourists. Many new tourism products and types of tourism have been introduced and developed to serve the increasingly high demands of tourists.

In the first four months of 2026, Lam Dong province welcomed nearly 8 million visitors, reaching 31.64% of the annual plan, a 20% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, international visitors reached 631,000, an increase of over 23.3% compared to the same period.

The majority of international tourists came from markets such as Russia, South Korea, China, Germany, and the United States. Revenue from tourism activities reached nearly 22,000 billion VND, an increase of 30.64% compared to the same period in 2015.

However, the development of inter-regional tourism products in the area has been incomplete in recent years. Tourism products remain fragmented and generate little significant value.

The connection between highland, coastal, and seaside urban tourism products is mostly in its potential stage. In reality, the locality has not yet clearly formed distinctive, highly competitive tourism routes and product chains.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Loc, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in addition to tourism products, the quality of tourism at some newly emerging tourist areas and destinations is currently limited.

The tourism environment still faces many issues that need to be addressed. Environmental pollution persists in some tourist areas and destinations. The workforce serving tourism is unevenly distributed.

"Many tourism businesses have not been proactive in mobilizing resources for coordinated activities, especially in promoting and advertising large-scale tourist destinations. This creates many obstacles for the province in attracting domestic and international tourists to Lam Dong," Mr. Loc said.

We need high-value tourism products.

Although tourism in Lam Dong province is thriving, with increasing tourism revenue contributing significantly to the province's GRDP, the reality shows that this sector still faces many bottlenecks that need to be addressed.

According to many experts and businesses, Lam Dong possesses all the necessary elements for developing high-level tourism. The key is for the locality to have a strategy to attract investors who are willing to try their hand at new tourism products.

According to Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuong, Deputy General Director of Nova Holding, what Lam Dong province is still lacking in tourism development is the absence of leading tourism products that create high value.

In reality, the majority of local tourism products are still short-term sightseeing and relaxation tours. This form of tourism is not yet sufficient to extend the length of stay or create an incentive for tourists to return.

Moreover, the areas with thousands of flowers, blue seas, and vast forests are still developing relatively independently, and have not yet truly connected into a unified experiential journey.

While global travel trends are shifting rapidly, particularly the trend of combining leisure travel with sports, often referred to as Sportscation.

Tourists who choose this model don't just visit sights; they also directly participate in sports activities, training, and competitions combined with relaxation. Destinations that have adopted this model have proven effective in extending vacations, increasing spending, and creating a stable base of returning visitors.

Tourists are delighted with the many destinations in Lam Dong.

“In reality, Lam Dong is one of the rare localities with all the necessary conditions to fully develop this model. The Thousand Flowers area can become a training, exercise, and health care center. The Blue Sea has the advantage of hosting competitions, events, and beach resorts. The Great Forest is a place to develop nature-based experiences and rehabilitation products. If we are determined to connect and implement these initiatives, it is entirely possible for Lam Dong's tourism to reach new heights in the future,” Ms. Thuong shared.

To elevate tourism development, representatives from Emerald Residences Phan Thiet shared that Lam Dong currently possesses some of Vietnam's leading advantages: its coastal landscape, mild climate, and abundant natural resources. The locality needs to develop tourism at a higher and more modern level, instead of remaining stuck with small-scale models.

“The model of water and marine entertainment, where yachts, water shows, light shows, and water sports converge; or night-time economy, tourism, and wellness with the development of pedestrian streets combining international cuisine, cafes, and therapeutic resorts. All of these are products that Lam Dong has the advantage to implement effectively,” analyzed a representative from Emerald Residences Phan Thiet.

With its vast development potential, Lam Dong province has been gradually implementing a strategy for developing high-quality tourism. This is not only a step towards elevating the local tourism industry in the future, but also affirms a new Lam Dong that is resilient, confident, and full of aspirations for development.

According to Nguyen Van Loc, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the locality is focusing on implementing the provincial tourism development plan for the period 2026-2030; and carrying out the Mui Ne National Tourist Area Planning until 2040, with a vision to 2050.

“We are currently seeking approval for the Nighttime Economy Development Project. Immediately after approval, the province will begin implementation. The province is focusing on developing unique, high-quality tourism products to promote green and sustainable tourism in the future,” said the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

According to Mr. Loc, along with development orientations and strategies, Lam Dong province has been making efforts in a series of activities to promote and stimulate tourism in its localities. The province has surveyed, developed, and introduced new tourism products and services, thereby increasing the length of stay and spending of tourists.

Regarding future development directions, Central Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi emphasized that Lam Dong urgently needs to stimulate demand for tourism products to elevate this sector in the future.

"

With the new landscape, the demand for tourism products must be innovative to create tourism tours that connect different regions within the province. Departments, localities, and businesses need to coordinate effectively, focusing on tourism promotion and marketing to showcase the province's potential and advantages to domestic and international tourists. Many new types of tourism, such as sports tourism combined with relaxation and medical tourism, need to be connected and widely promoted.

Looking ahead, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee instructed units, localities, associations, and businesses to identify the province's key tourist markets. These units need to coordinate effectively, focus on investment promotion, and create breakthroughs in tourism development in the coming period.
