On the morning of June 15th, hundreds of students passionate about remote control gathered at the Cao Thang Technical College campus to watch the final round of the Mini Car Racing competition.
The final round featured dramatic turns and maneuvers.
Mini Car Racing is a competition for model cars built by students, with a maximum size of 80 x 50 x 50 cm, using a gasoline engine with a displacement of 22-33 cm³ , and having a structure and operating principle similar to real cars. In addition, the model cars must meet safety standards in terms of technical specifications, without sharp edges that could cause danger.
Model cars race on a specially designed track with a total length of 76m. Competing teams utilize IoT applications, using smartphones with Wi-Fi connectivity to remotely control their models.
The contestant operating the model will stand in the center area; if a member leaves the control platform, it will be considered a foul.
Each round will feature 3 teams, who will complete 2 laps on a course with curves, obstacles, ramps, etc.
Unique racing car models this year
According to MSc. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Cao Thang Technical College, this is the 8th year the school has organized the competition. This year's competition has more than 350 students from 70 teams representing colleges and universities such as: Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and Technology, Van Lang University, Tra Vinh University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Nam Can Tho University, Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College, Ariake School of Japan, etc.
"This year, the organizers have improved the race track in terms of design, using steel for construction and a sturdy structure, while also increasing the number of obstacles and challenges compared to previous seasons. After two rounds of technical checks, more than 50 teams advanced to the preliminary round, and 27 teams progressed to the final round," said Mr. Thanh.
The five-member team from PCC Hunter, Cao Thang Technical College (District 1), excellently won the championship at the Mini Car Racing 2024 DIY model car competition.
After 13 intense rounds of competition, the first and second prizes went to the PCC Hunter team and the "You're Not Talented" team from Cao Thang Technical College; the Innovation prize went to the Lighting Goat team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.
In addition, the team with the most innovative and unique technological product in terms of functionality, aesthetics, and economics , and that most closely resembles a real-world structure, will be selected as a model for use in teaching.
