Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' succumbs to 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour'

Killers of the Flower Moon (Vietnamese title: Blood Moon ) achieved a total global revenue of 44 million USD. However, director Martin Scorsese's film still lost to the musical film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour .

Despite finishing in second place, this is the best start for Martin Scorsese, since Shutter Island was released in 2010 with 41 million USD or before that The Departed (released in 2006) with   26.9 million USD.

Killers of the Flower Moon was a hit despite stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro being unable to promote the film amid an actors' strike.

With a running time of over 3 hours, Killers of the Flower Moon received an A- CinemaScore from audiences and a 92% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a good sign. Adapted from the 2017 novel of the same name by David Grann, the film takes place in the context of a mass massacre of Native Americans in the Osage Territory, Oklahoma (USA) in the 1920s, after the discovery of large oil fields.

The blockbuster , “Killers of the Flower Moon,” cost $200 million to produce, representing a bold bet on the big screen for Apple, which has traditionally prioritized streaming movies over theaters.

"The reviews and audience scores are fantastic. Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro have strong appeal overseas," said David A. Gross, who runs the film consultancy Franchise Entertainment Research.

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie came in at No. 4 with $4.3 million in its fourth weekend. The Paramount and Nickelodeon animated children's film grossed $55.9 million in North America and $148 million worldwide , surpassing its 2021 predecessor PAW Patrol ($40 million in North America, $140 million worldwide).

Rounding out the top five was Disney's re-release of the 1993 animated classic The Nightmare Before Christmas , which added $4.1 million from 1,650 theaters.
