"The 'Block Youth Union' is the name we—cadres and members of the branch and grassroots Youth Unions of provincial-level agencies—referred to our superior Youth Union organization: the 'Block Youth Union of Provincial-Level Agencies.' When Bac Lieu province was re-established and various agencies and organizations were formed, the Block Youth Union of Provincial-Level Agencies also began operating, equivalent to the district and town Youth Unions at that time. When I returned to my unit and joined the Executive Committee of the branch Youth Union, the Block Youth Union was already operating stably with its female leader, Ms. Tran Thanh Thuy. The Youth Union's movements back then didn't have as many fancy names as they do now, but they were very vibrant. Sports activities on Youth Union and association anniversaries were organized regularly and enthusiastically, attracting many members and leaving many happy memories. I remember one time, during a sports competition, the branch Youth Union didn't have enough people, so we brought in the unit's young sons-in-law to compete in tug-of-war." Although they couldn't achieve victory, those sports events not only served as a bonding agent for the unit but also seemed to bring sweetness to young families. Responding to the environmental cleanup campaign, after leaving early, the youth union treated themselves to the famous sticky rice with pork skin dish from Bac Lieu town.

In particular, the twinning movement between provincial-level agency Youth Union branches and commune-level Youth Union branches in remote and disadvantaged areas, launched by the Block Youth Union, quickly received support from all units within the block. This is a very meaningful activity, creating a bond between Youth Union members in provincial-level agencies and young people in remote and disadvantaged areas with difficult socio-economic conditions; at the same time, it provides resources to support Youth Union organizations in remote areas to implement models for caring for the lives of Youth Union members. It can be said that the Block Youth Union was the first unit to build this model, with very encouraging results. Some units supported the construction of charity houses, others donated orchards, fish ponds, or agricultural production models, and some even donated gifts to poor children or coordinated free medical examinations and treatment for the people… Civil servants and public employees who are used to working at desks are now participating in social activities in places they may never have even visited before. This has truly impacted the thoughts and actions of many young people, creating a meaningful and practically effective movement.
Then, the policy of organizing youth union activities at "red addresses" and historical sites brought youth union members in offices to famous locations in the province, making the activities not confined within four walls and merely ceremonial, but also adding many meaningful and useful historical lessons to be absorbed.
In subsequent periods, the Youth Union continued to make its mark with many diverse and practical activities and movements. However, as the number of Youth Union members in provincial-level agencies and units gradually decreased (due to reduced staffing quotas), many branches were dissolved due to a lack of members. And now, the Youth Union is just a name in the fond memories of former Youth Union members in their 50s. Nevertheless, the movements and activities of the Youth Union will forever remain valuable experiences for future Youth Union branches to learn from and refer to in their approach to youth.
For us, the Youth Union brought us a truly vibrant and youthful era!
