On April 22, the Department of Internal Affairs of Lam Dong province announced that it had completed the process of gathering opinions from voters regarding the reorganization of provincial and commune-level administrative units. Accordingly, the authorities collected opinions from 323,104 voters and household representatives in 137 communes, wards, and towns in Lam Dong province.
The results show that 316,193 out of 323,104 voters, representing households, agreed to merge Dak Nong, Binh Thuan , and Lam Dong provinces into Lam Dong province, accounting for 97.86%; and 314,452 out of 323,104 voters, representing households, agreed to the rearrangement of commune-level administrative units, accounting for 97.32%.
The Department of Internal Affairs of Lam Dong province stated that the process of gathering opinions from voters and households was carried out by the authorities in accordance with regulations. The consultation process took place over several days, including Saturdays and Sundays. Of the 137 communes, wards, and towns, 42 administrative units had a 100% participation rate of voters and household representatives in the consultation. According to the plan for reorganizing commune-level administrative units, Lam Dong province will reduce the number of communes, wards, and towns from 137 to 51.
According to Decision No. 759/QD-TTg dated April 14th by the Prime Minister, Lam Dong province will merge with Dak Nong and Binh Thuan provinces, retaining the name Lam Dong province; the administrative and political center is expected to be located in Da Lat. After the merger, Lam Dong province is expected to have the largest natural area in the country with 24,233 km² and a population of 3,324,400 people.
