The Set Booc May festival of the Thai people in Xuan Du commune.
Thanh Hoa currently boasts over 1,500 historical and cultural relics and scenic spots that have been inventoried, classified, and protected, along with more than 300 traditional festivals maintained annually. This rich heritage is not only present in ancient communal houses, temples, fortresses, and traditional festivals, but is also gradually appearing in the online space in many vibrant forms.
From images and short videos to live streams and digital products utilizing modern technology, many localities and heritage management units are leveraging social media to promote their image, spread cultural values, and connect heritage with the community. Social media has become a new "gateway" for the public to access heritage in more visual, vivid, and convenient ways.
In Hoang Chau commune, whenever the locality organizes a festival or cultural event, the media team proactively records and creates videos, conducts live broadcasts, and posts them on the commune's fanpage. This approach was clearly demonstrated during the traditional festival of the village's tutelary deity, Vu Viet Thanh, in 2026. Activities surrounding the festival, such as the procession of the palanquin, cultural performances, and the artistic fireworks display, not only attracted local people but also spread widely on social media. For example, the video recording the fireworks display garnered approximately 44,600 views and nearly 1,000 likes, comments, and shares on Facebook; the video of the palanquin procession attracted over 10,200 views and more than 500 shares and comments.
Ms. Truong Thi Hang, from the Hoang Chau Commune Public Service Center, said: “We recognize social media as a fast and effective channel for promoting the traditional cultural values of the locality. Through shared videos and images, many people living far from home can follow cultural activities right from where they live. Many people, after watching, have shared them on their personal pages, contributing to spreading the image of their homeland to more people.”
Not only in Hoang Chau commune, but many localities and cultural sites and destinations throughout the province have been effectively utilizing digital platforms to promote their image and spread the value of their heritage. Images and videos of the Lam Kinh Festival, the Ba Trieu Temple Festival, traditional cultural activities, and sightseeing experiences at historical sites are regularly updated on Facebook, TikTok, Zalo, and many other platforms, contributing to bringing the cultural values of Thanh Hoa closer to the public.

Activities at the 2026 Vu Viet Thanh Village Patron Saint Festival are being posted on social media platforms.
Ho Citadel is one of the leading units in applying digital technology to serve the conservation and promotion of heritage values. Accordingly, the unit has developed a 3D guided tour program providing an overview of the outstanding values of the heritage site. Simultaneously, it has promoted research and application of 3D technology on its website, allowing visitors to explore, learn about, and update information about the heritage site using smartphones with vivid and engaging visuals. In parallel, the unit maintains the "Ho Citadel World Heritage Site" fanpage with over 5,200 followers, along with platforms such as TikTok, Zalo, and other social media community groups. Images and videos about conservation activities, research, heritage education , festivals, and visitor experiences are regularly updated, creating a rich source of information for locals and tourists.
According to Trinh Huu Anh, Deputy Director of the Management Board of Ho Citadel Heritage and Key Relics of the province: “Encouraging people, especially the younger generation, to participate in creating and sharing content about the heritage not only contributes to promoting the image of Ho Citadel to a wider audience but also enhances the community's responsibility in preserving and promoting the value of the heritage. When each person becomes a storyteller about the heritage, cultural values will have more opportunities to spread strongly and sustainably in the digital environment.”
A noteworthy point is that the dissemination of heritage through the digital environment comes not only from management agencies or media outlets but also from the community itself. At many historical sites and traditional festivals, the sight of people using their phones to record unique rituals and folk performances, then posting them on Facebook, TikTok, or live-streaming them on their personal pages, has become familiar. Ms. Quach Thi Duyen from Xuan Du commune shared: “The Set Booc May festival is a beautiful cultural tradition that the Thai people always cherish and preserve. When sharing images and videos of the festival on social media, I not only want to preserve these beautiful moments but also hope that more people will learn about and love our ethnic culture.”
According to Le Van Trung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: “The application of technology and the effective exploitation of social media platforms not only contribute to promoting the image of heritage to a wider audience but also expand access opportunities for the younger generation. This is one of the important solutions to bring heritage closer to contemporary life, arousing pride and a sense of responsibility in the community in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. In the coming time, the cultural sector will continue to promote digital transformation in the field of heritage, while encouraging localities and units to innovate communication methods, creating a deeper and wider dissemination of the cultural values of Thanh Hoa province.”
