Compared to previous seasons, this year's competition marks a significant improvement in both scale and quality, with the participation of 600 athletes aged 12-18 from 84 schools in 75 communes and wards across the province. The competition events were well-designed and tailored to each age group. Junior high school students competed in 22 events across various disciplines: running (60m, 100m, 200m, 600m, 800m, 1500m), high jump, long jump, and ball throwing. High school students competed in 17 events across various disciplines: running (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m), high jump, long jump, and shot put (3kg, 5kg).

The professional quality has also improved significantly. Many individual records have been set, demonstrating the serious training process of the students. Among them, Vu Bao Nam from Chieng Sinh ward made a spectacular breakthrough in the boys' 60m race with a time of 7.31 seconds; Ngan Van Nhat from Van Ho Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School conquered the 1.50m bar in the high jump; and Hoang Van Thiem from Muong Chanh commune set a record of 5.22m in the long jump.

Sharing his feelings after brilliantly completing the men's 100m race and leading with a time of 11.48 seconds, Hoang Trong Hai, a student from Song Ma High School, said: "On the track, I tried to maintain a steady pace from the start and exerted all my strength to sprint as fast as possible in the final sections. I am very happy to have achieved such a high result; this is a motivation for me to strive to pursue my passion for athletics."

The competition was also dramatic in the overall team standings, with close scores between the participating units. Specifically, in the overall team category for schools within communes and wards, Chiềng Mai commune won first place; Chu Văn Thịnh High School won first place overall among high schools.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, informed: Athletics is a key sport, with many diverse events such as running various distances, high jump, long jump, shot put, and ball throwing. This subject is included in the main physical education curriculum and extracurricular activities such as mid-morning exercises and experiential activities in most schools. The student athletics competition is a channel to discover talented individuals to train high-achieving athletes for the province.

At Phu Yen High School, to encourage and facilitate student participation in sports, the school has established a Student Sports Club with 200 members practicing three sports: volleyball, basketball, and athletics. Physical education teachers guide the training sessions at the end of Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. In addition, the school regularly sends athletes to competitions for professional exchange, experience, and quality assessment.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Quyen, a physical education teacher at Phu Yen High School, said: "At this year's traditional student athletics competition, the school had 12 athletes participating in 13 events. Achieving second place overall is a motivation for the teachers and students to continue promoting the development of athletics training and competition in the future."

Currently, 100% of preschools and general education institutions fully implement the physical education curriculum as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training; 90% of general education institutions organize sports activities, including athletics; 98% of students are tested and assessed for physical fitness according to their age...

To further promote the physical education and sports movement in schools, the Department of Education and Training continues to advise the Provincial People's Committee to prioritize investment in facilities and training equipment for schools; strengthen professional training for subject teachers; encourage close coordination between sectors to select and train young talents, creating momentum to promote the sustainable development of school sports, and creating a source of high-quality successor athletes for the province's high-performance sports in the new phase.
