Spreading the spirit of patriotic emulation in social science research

On September 30, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences held the 9th Patriotic Emulation Congress. This important event contributed to affirming the role of emulation and rewards in promoting social science research, making practical contributions to the cause of national construction and development in the new era.

Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences , awarded outstanding collectives and individuals of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences in the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2021-2025.

In his opening speech, Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, affirmed that the emulation and reward work has always been directed by the Party Committee and the Leadership of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, closely following the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, and is one of the key tasks with priority resources for implementation. The unit has implemented specific solutions and measures, focusing on innovating the content and form of emulation and rewards to suit each target group, closely linked to the implementation of political and professional tasks, in accordance with the characteristics and practical conditions of the units and the development orientation of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

During the 2020-2025 period, many collectives and individuals of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences were honored to receive noble awards such as the Labor Medal, the Government's Emulation Flag, and the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit. In 2022, one individual was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize, two individuals were awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology...

According to the summary report for the 2020-2025 period, patriotic emulation movements have created motivation for each individual and unit belonging to and affiliated to the Academy to overcome difficulties and challenges, and excellently complete assigned political and professional tasks.

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has effectively led and directed the implementation of many important projects, programs, and research topics, closely following the socio-economic development goals and the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws.

Research focuses on core issues such as innovation in leadership methods, building a socialist-oriented market economy, the relationship between economic development and social progress and equity, environmental protection, and issues of cultural, ethnic, and religious development.

Some typical projects and programs include: Compiling the Vietnamese Encyclopedia, researching the Oc Eo-Ba The-Nen Chua archaeological site; social science and humanities programs on the sea; researching the land border area; building a national value system, a cultural value system and Vietnamese human standards. The Academy also implemented research projects and adjusted the Thang Long Imperial Citadel relic; the location of the tunnel and underground parking lot at 36 Dien Bien Phu.

In the 2020-2025 period, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has carried out 961 independent projects, ministerial-level scientific tasks, 2,074 grassroots projects and 236 other projects. In addition, the Academy has also carried out 76 national-level projects, 3 protocol projects, 157 Nafosted fund projects and 140 projects and topics that do not use the state budget.

In addition, the Party Committee and the Leadership of the Academy have directed the development and submission to the Government and the Prime Minister of a Project to enhance capacity and develop the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences into a key research center, on par with advanced countries in the region and the world.

Regarding policy consulting work, the Academy has prepared more than 300 policy consulting reports to send to Party and State agencies on important and urgent issues such as the summary report "Theory and practice over 40 years of innovation and issues arising in the new period"; reports on the world, regional and some national situations; reports analyzing and forecasting the socio-economic situation at home and abroad.

The number of policy advisory reports has increased more than 3 times compared to the previous term. In particular, from March 2024, the Academy will periodically report monthly on analysis, forecast the situation and provide advice on socio-economic development policies as official documents for regular meetings of the Government.

The organizational structure has also been streamlined to be more streamlined and efficient. Compared to the beginning of the Government's term, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has continued to reduce 16 department/institute-level units and nearly 80 division-level units.

The staff and civil servants have been restructured in association with improving capacity and quality to meet the requirements of the tasks. More than 30 specialized research journals have been transferred to management research institutes, procedures have been carried out to change the governing body, and operating licenses of journals have been issued in accordance with regulations.

Through emulation movements, the Institute's officers, civil servants and employees have promoted their sense of responsibility, become more attached to the community, and spread the humanistic values ​​of social sciences to social life.

At the Congress, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences honored and rewarded outstanding collectives and individuals in the emulation movement for the 2021-2025 period, and introduced the list of delegates attending the 11th National Patriotic Emulation Congress.

Prof. Dr. Le Van Loi, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, launched the emulation movement for the 2025-2030 period with the theme: "Emulation for innovation, creativity, discipline, responsibility; proactive and timely; streamlined and effective; accelerating breakthroughs to successfully complete political tasks". Units under the Academy also signed an emulation agreement, pledging to strive to overcome difficulties and challenges to excellently complete tasks in the coming period.
